6. Grown-up Army brat
My Father was a lifer in the US Army. He retired as a Chief Warrant Officer. On the other hand, I myself never served.

Why am I posting? Because although some of us have never been in the military, we understand what those in the Service go through. We support them -- even in times when the only pro-military speechifying from the Right is done in bars and on talk radio, and even when the word "traitor" becomes a Conservatives' favorite verbal tic.

There are now 610 American service personnel dead, at least as of the last report. All so a bunch of Dominionist-minded "Vulcans", Strangeloves, and barstool patriots can puff out their chests when they get a load on. I suspect that Dad will soon be digging himself out of his own grave, joining the Zombie Army of Fallen Soldiers, and maching on Washington to kick some serious ass.

even if you never served but you were in a military family...to me...it's just as good...because most that I know that were in military families have a better understanding of what it means to serve and the honor that goes along with it then some of these armchair soldiers out there...

So to the military wives and children of military members out there...I salute you as well...

17. I had heard they
used to have watercraft for retrieving missiles but I don't know what size. Do they still have them?

It's a shame they ended their warrant program. Becoming a warrant officer was the best move I made in my career.

28. US Air Force
1958 - 1963

1. Lackland AFB, TX for basic

2. Keesler AFB, Miss, for tech school
(Aircraft electronic Navigation Equipment repairman)

3. Craig AFB, Alabama for ever (at least it seemed that way)

I would have killed to go overseas, but had to settle for Alabama. Come to think of it though, for a kid raised on the streets of NYC, Selma, Alabama in 1960 was a foreign country.

My original discharge date was to be 10/17/62, but the Cuban Missile Crisis changed all that.

12/1985-11/1992:

OCS
Lackland AFB, Texas
Moody AFB, Georgia
Yokota AB, Japan

He would've stayed in longer but, thanks to Cheney and Powell downsizing the military after the Gulf War, his military career came to an end. :(

40. Bravo Co. 2nd Btn 12th Cav ~ 1st Cav div
Same Unit Max Cleland was with. We were the relief Force at Khe Sahn for the Marines that had been under such intense bombardment for 75 days. I am not sure which Company Max was with and I don't recall ever meeting him but I was in the same area at the same time in the same Battalion. And just to clear up one thing that was said about him by Ann coulter. There were No Beer Halls at Khe Sahn. But there were incoming rounds every single day many times a day and it was not some rear area where he was not in harms way. It makes no difference whether it was a US grenade or enemy grenade it was a live grenade in a Combat Zone and he picked it up without fear. The enemy used US equipment almost as much as they did Chinese or Russian.
