This choice of words by Clarke to describe the president's manner has been gnawing on me. Does anyone else remember him using the word "mad" during his interview on Hardball last night (Wednesday)? Matthews just played it for Biden to illustrate another point. But Clarke said that when the shrub told him to find a connection between 9/11 and Iraq, Clarke said Bush* was mad. And everyone present in the room would also probably agree that "he was mad".
What gets to me about it is that it's far too colloquial a word to describe anger - at least for Clarke. And I sort of wonder if he was trying to imply or color the shrub as a madman. Especially after listening to Randi Rhodes' interview this afternoon with the author, Kevin Phillips. They discussed how Bush's base is the religious right that believes in "the rapture" and all that stuff. So when Bush* says that god told him to attack Iraq, he's validating scripture.
I know that the religious related stuff has been discussed here at DU. It's the "mad" that stuck with me since last night. And btw, I think Clarke is smart enough to imply madness in this way. If it's true that he chose that word on purpose, I think it's pretty cool.
