Thinking The Unthinkable: What Should We Do If Bush Wins?
Let's be really honest. It could happen, people. Better to be prepared. Let's brainstorm about what we might have to do. If they win (or steal) this election, that's when they'll bring the knives out. They'll have proved that they can get away with *anything*. More expansionist wars, resurrection of the draft, open political oppression, economic collapse, etc., it's all down the line if Bush stays in power.

4. And if one is to believe the CNN website this morning
Their most recent poll suggests that those polled (whoever they are) believe he's done a great job in the war on terror. What the hell are these people thinking? Listening to? Reading? Is American that dumbed up?

So, I guess anything is possible. And I personally don't put anything past the BFEE to stay in power. They will stop at nothing. And everyone should be very afraid.

17. They will change their tune when the draft comes
www.bushdraft.com
they will change their tune. I have a feeling they are living in an illusory world where they think we have some sort of large standing army. The reserves and the guard are NOT a standing army they were supposed to defend the homeland at home, and our ports and infrastructure is not protected, as Richard Clarke pointed out, if the media would EVER get around to discussing the REAL issues and stop attacking him personally for telling the truth.
so Bush will require a large standing army comprised of everyone's kids. That might wake them up.
I am hunkering down and will do my part as a patriot against fascism.
I have to , my sons have an escape plan, and my stepson is in Iraq, and all I can do is stay put and when he gets back (and he better) be here for him so he can , if he wants , be put in a safe place.
Thats where Im at now anyway.
I just pray we dont lose the Internet.

37. You're right, Mari, there will be a draft
But it will be too late. Many young Bush supporters will be lamenting the fact that they voted for him as they go to their local conscription area.

With Bush "winning" in 2004, there will be no stopping these guys. Their arrogance will bring about so many other sweeping changes; it's hard to imagine what else will happen to this once great nation.

5. Continue to be a Loud and Vocal Opposition!
Edited on Tue Mar-30-04 06:55 AM by MarianJack
Everybody thought that it was going to be horrible when nixon was re-elected in '72 and look what happened.

The poop really started to hit the fan about a week after one of the news magazines (Time or Newsweek) hit the stands saying that life had never been better for richard nixon. Then a little thing called Watergate started to publically unfold.

I don't think that a lame duck (which he would be as soon as the last vote was counted/"lost"/stolen) bush would wield all that much power. Maybe I'm wrong, but I hope not!

18. Be happy you are in Canada, sir
We Free Americans, so recently pulled from the community of Free Nations, are both envious and concerned for you up North.

Throughout history, Tyrannies have NEVER alowed Free Nations to exist on their borders.

In the 1790s, when Poland created a Constitution rivalling America's, the Tyrannies of Poland, Austria, and Russia swallowed it up for 130 years.

Hitler, as one of his first moves, swallowed up Free Austria and turned it into a Bushevik enclave.

The Soviet Union created the Warsaw Pact to buffer itself against a Free Europe. It didn't work of course and the nuclear balance of terror preculded an invasion, otherwise I think it would have happened.

Canada, if the Imperial Family retains power, is most definitely NOT safe. You will suffer some form of Anschluss eventually, or the Busheviks will Coup your government. In any case, something will be done so that Canada is no longer a member of the Free World, lest it be a magnet for Fredom-Loving Imperial Subjects.

I say this not to be mean but to make you aware: The Bushevik Tyrants, once they have secured The Homeland, will NEVER allow Free Canada to mock it from the North.

It may be a long time in coming, but it WILL come. It is an historical verity.

23. But Mr. Paine
1. Wouldn't a military coup be difficult considering Canada is under NATO protection? The US is strong, but it couldn't withstand a global assault.
2. I would also like to think a cultural coup would be difficult. Our neighbors to the north take a more enlightened (dare I say, "old Europe") view of things. They would, perhaps, be more likely to heed the warning of the intellectuals that populate their country, and avert a political takeover the likes of which we've seen in the homeland.

I am well aware of the history -- my grandparents fled the Austrian-Hungarian empire in 1913. My father is a old but sage WWII RAF POW. He warned me in the summer leading up to the Iraq war that Bush would go down as one of the greatest terrorist in history.
We are a very proud nation and we will not go down without a fight -- you can take that to the bank!

that I shared your optimism. I think it's going to be extremely close and wouldn't doubt that he'll win. I'm weighing my options for such an event. Don't ever forget who we're dealing with here. These people will stop at nothing to secure and maintain their stranglehold on power. I'm truly frightened for the future of this country should this occur.

20. But Manual and Electronic Disenfranchisement Techniques give them a 10%
edge before a "vote" has been cast.

Gonna be tough to win a 50-yard dash with the Busheviks starting at the 10 yard mark.

Assuming a Free Country with a Free Press and trustworthy voting systems, Bush would be clobbered.

But we have NONE of these things currently.

Vigilance.

10. To quote John Dean
as quoted in Krugman's op ed today:

Where will it end? In his new book, "Worse Than Watergate," John Dean, of Watergate fame, says, "I've been watching all the elements fall into place for two possible political catastrophes, one that will take the air out of the Bush-Cheney balloon and the other, far more disquieting, that will take the air out of democracy."

12. Oh I agree that it is
going to be a really tough fight. But listen, please, because I think this is important: I've said before on here that I used to box. Had hundreds of fights, was in magazines, on tv, etc. Trained fighters, licensed to work corners of professional fighters. And you have to wipe away any taint of "self-doubt" before a tough fight. Just have to, or else your mind plays tricks on you, and you can be defeated. So you go in NOT over-confident, but entirely confident. And that's what we need to do. Because every minute we spend thinking "what if ...." or worse, making a preparation for "what if..." is energy better spent invested in the effort to win this fall. It's that simple. Also, one of two Americans has told the truth: Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr., or George W. Bush. They have both spoken of a vision for the future. King did not lie to us, brothers and sisters. We're going to reach that mountain top.

11. we must make sure he doesn't win
believe me.......he will win if we don't do a few things

get with your Kerry/Democratic meet ups and organize to get Dems to register
then get them to vote
support Kerry ...financially if you can

write your congressmen and all congressmen that we want pressure put on this White House...to investigate threats made to previous FBI employees that were hired to change pre 9/11 documents....to reveal the names of the energy commission...to reveal the name of the person who leaked the identity of the CIA agent....

write and demand full disclosure on Dick Cheney's health record and financial dealings just prior to taking office in 2000....there's fraud in them thar documents

demand the mainstream media report the real news....email them to death...

there are petitions for having a paper trail in our voting booths.....SIGN THEM!!!

support the 911 families...sign the petition for a new commission...

I absolutely love this forum....but we need to spend time on things that will have positive results for us....there is only a very small swing vote and we need to capture it....red will stay red and blue will stay blue....but it is the swing vote that will get Kerry elected if we capture...one stat is true...when Democrats vote Democrats win.....

I think we should organize a nation wide march "for truth in Washington"....during the weekend of the Republican convention....take some media coverage away from them

..........oh well.......you asked

13. We need to make sure there's exit polling on Nov. 2...
Edited on Tue Mar-30-04 07:49 AM by Jeebo
...so that if the Bushies "win" by rigging the voting machines and stealing the election again, we'll know it. Obviously, exit polling is the most accurate form of polling there is, because it polls actual voters at the same time that they cast their votes. Sound exit polling data will provide statistical proof that something is wrong if the voting machines are rigged. I don't know if anybody is going to do exit polling on Nov. 2; I remember the news organizations that did exit polling in Nov. 2000 said a year or two ago that they're not going to do it again this year.

Have rigged voting machines already been used to steal elections? Bev Harris said that the results of the Nov. 2002 Georgia gubernatorial and Senate races were a "statistical impossibility" because the disagreement between the voting results and the last polls before the election were well outside the margin of error. All of Georgia's votes were cast on paperless touchscreen voting machines. And let's not forget Nebraska Republican Senator Chuck Hagel, who was CEO of a company that made voting machines, sold his machines to the state of Nebraska, quit his job, ran for the Senate, and -- surprise! -- "won" in a huge upset. And then six years later he won again, this time with 80 percent of the vote.

So what are we going to do if Bush "wins" in November? Well, if exit polling data show that he didn't REALLY win, then we will have sufficient statistical evidence to pursue that fight in the courts, the House, the Senate, the media, and the streets. I have never been a marcher, or a demonstrator, or a picketer, but I would participate in a peaceful march on Washington under these circumstances. We did not exhaust all legal and peaceful means to deal with the theft of the presidency in 2000; this year, we must not make that mistake again.

Ron

BushCo is tailor-made for making a lot of Americans realize just what neoliberalism really is, for making them realize what is important in life, for pushing this nation to the Left, finally.

This may be a great opportunity for political change. That is why I am considering doing something for Nader. Strike while the iron is hot, or so they say.....

You do realized that this is Democratic Underground? I'm definitely farther to the left than much of the party, but I can't see any good coming out of another term for Bush. More death, more destruction, and a Supreme Court Justice or two.

Or perhaps your post is a clever satirical skewering of the typical Naderite blather?
