Let's Kill the "Republicans are Good for Military Meme" for good
Bush, Sr. oversaw the biggest draw-down of the military in United States history - part of trying to paper over the disaster-in-the-making that the doddering California pretender created by bankrupting the nation trying to create a bloated state-of-the-art navy.

Eisenhower warned the world about the military-industrial(-Congressional) Complex, because the Republicans in the 1950s had invented the phenomenon of "cost creep" whereby whatever was bid by military contractors would cost whatever money Congress had authorized for the system.

So, Republicans going backwards:

Bush, Jr. is a sociopath bent on world domination. Um, not good for military morale or strength.

Bush, Sr. tried to save the nation from Reagan's excess, necessitating a huge draw-down.

Nixon humiliated the military by subsuming it under the CIA and Kissinger and their plan to destroy Laos and Cambodia.

Eisenhower warned us the Cold War Republicans were setting up a rigged system to loot the nation using the Cold War as an excuse to funnel unchecked sums to military contractors.

Hoover was a loser.

Lincoln killed more military than any Commander-in-Chief in United States history.

Republicans royally SUCK at creating, maintaining, or building a military. All they do is PROJECT military superiority.

Here's the appropriate analogy for Republicans and the military:

Republicans are to the military as Codpiece is to Bush the Fake Airman - hollow, pretend, and all-promise-no-delivery.

1. Other than....
the Lincoln part, I totally agree. I saw that the U.S. has like 9 or 10 nuclear aircraft carriers. Why do we need all that? And how much do those stealth bombers cost a piece? Just a bunch of wasteful spending. If they want to spend on the military, it should go to pay salaries not to pay off a bunch of defense contractors. Even better, spend the money of healthcare.

2. But I think we are only #1 on two things in this world and.....
If we get rid of spending the most on arms we will only have a #1 on people in prison. Is that fair?

3. Spending $11,000.00 each second on the military
That means that Bush wastes what could fund the salary of a teacher every three seconds.

And if Bush had his way, he'd clear the prisons, too - by killing everyone!

Oh, that wacky Bush.
