1. *'s oil buddies are stealing and price-gouging...
...as much as they can before he gets the boot.

2. Bingo! That man gets a prize!
They will go down after Nov. 2nd, once President Kerry threatens them with an investigation.

Just as when they were participating in the Phony Energy Crisis of 2001, which was stopped by the Jeffords Defection and similar threats.

Just as, after 9-11, the Oil Companies stopped stealing (temporarily) and made us pay a normal price with a normal profit attached, instead of what we normally pay.

3. WRONG: its an election strategy.
squeeze us until we're screaming, then back WAY off mid-summer. let the peons bask in the largess of the bush doctrine's victory of those horrible brown people.

then we'll all say (ok, swing voters will say) "hey, we won the war! gas is down to a $1.30! that bush is a-OK with this amurkin!"

4. Not so sure of that myself
There are factors that the Bush admin isn't in control of putting a lot of upward pressure on the oil markets: the falling dollar, burgeoning industrial development in China, loss of Iraqi oil on the market (we used to buy something like 2 million barrels of day from Saddam Hussein before the invasion, now we get nothing), OPEC production cutbacks, etc.... Plenty of real-life factors to drive the price up on it's own.

I suppose that the oil companies might drop the price this fall as you suggest, but I bet they'd have to cut pretty deeply into profit margins to do so. Not so sure they would do that, even for Bush.

I honestly don't think Bush is in control of this thing anymore. We buy wholesale gas contracts at work, and our gas guy (who's almost NEVER wrong) has been saying that gas is going to go up, and stay up, all through the next 9-12 months.

We'll find out soon enough.

7. He has to do a lot better than...
then we'll all say (ok, swing voters will say) "hey, we won the war! gas is down to a $1.30! that bush is a-OK with this amurkin!"

... than $1.30 a gallon before I'm impressed. But reallly, they pay a whole lot more for gas in most other countries. This is the least of our problems! Get some good jobs for American workers and we'll be more able to afford the price of gas.

9. The increased energy costs are eating up the "cheap" money...
that Bushco and Greenscum have put into the economy slowing it down henceforth, weakening Bushlers Re-"election" strategy.

5. oil price been ranging 34-38 $$$
for a good couple months.
summer is coming w/ opec cuts, mideast problems, and dismal industry reports.

one freeper show on late night airwave..
is pissed - because he thought everyone was gonna get cheap iraqi oil by now.
he says it was the "un-stated wink-wink* type message he got from bush, pre iraq war.

i love how he says it without a hint of shame, gives me a serious chuckle.
