Republicans more interested in capturing Clinton than terrorists?

Did Republicans focus more on investigating Clinton than in capturing terrorists?

During the Clinton years, is it possible to make the case that Republicans focused more
on investigating Clinton than pursing terrorists?

IÕm I way off base here DU or can this case be made?

1. That's the best line I've heard all week, probaly all month
I would say *Congressional* Republicans were more interested in getting Clinton than they were in getting al-Qaeda.

Yeah, I like that a lot!

9. True...
The Republicans hamstrung Clinton with their assinine "investigation" that turned up a blowjob. If CLinton acted on intelligence he would have been accused of doing deflect the Lewinsky scandal

The Republicans should be considered guilty for impeding Clinton. When politics puts American lives at risk, then it has gone too far. In my book, they are complicit in 9/11.

3. Powerful message!
That should be used against every Republican running for re-election that voted for the impeachment. They have weakened our nation with their right-wing partisanship and their lies.

4. You have the wrong header. I would suggest that the repugs were more
interested in getting to the root of Clinton's penis than they were in fighting terrorism.

The Baghwan has spoken.

try to pass/do against terrorists, terrorism and Al Qaeda, during the Clinton years?

How much money did they spend on it vs Whitewater and the impeachment fiasco?

Thanks for the Kudos folks.

7. Limbaugh and the radio nuts were saying it was all a "wag the dog"
and most of the Repub establishment was advancing the same argument. They were all totally obsessed with Monica. It carried thru right up to the election day in November of 2000. Remember Bush's comments about "restoring honor and dignity" to the White House? What do you think he was talking about? Remember how they all mocked the bombing in Sudan as "Clinton bombed an aspirin factory"? Terrorism never crossed one Republican mind, except maybe Dick Clarke's?

14. Oh hell yes
Frustrated the heck out of me. NOTHING could get done in Washington because all that the Gingrich Republicans wanted to do was shut down Clinton. They spewed hatred of "Billary" at every opportunity, and they found the perfect Inquisitor in Kenneth Starr-- smiling, bland, and single mindedly relentless. The accusations that surfaced on talk radio programs like Limbaugh's were mind-boggling: Bill and Hillary as murderers, for one; career criminals for another; Hillary's a lesbian that's why Bill strays. The VRWC went on and on and on in the most vile fashion, and they couldn't even keep their hands off 13-year-old Chelsea. The timing of the movie "Wag the Dog" was odd, to say the least. It was amusing as a film, but less so in context of then-current events.

I have wondered before this why no one yet has picked up on the culpability of the Republicans in Congress for making governance and long-range planning impossible while Clinton was in office. All the "news" media has to do is go back and read the publically-stated goals of Gingrich and cohorts, one of which was to "shut down the government," then ask how well they accomplished those goals, and then apply the answer to the issue of preventing 9-11.

Hekate
"Have I told you lately how much I hate them?"

15. Some Dem has to come out and say:
<<All the "news" media has to do is go back and read the publically-stated goals of Gingrich and cohorts, one of which was to "shut down the government,">>

Yeah, thatÕs all they have to do but instead they have done puff pieces on Rummy and W.

Some Dem has to come out and say:

During the Clinton administration, how much time and money did Republicans spend on fighting terrorism vs the Whitewater and the impeachment fiasco?

With intelligence of an impending terrorist attack, why did they take a month long vacation in
August?

Why were tax cuts more of a priority to this administration than terrorism?

16. Tracking Clinton's penis
Instead of tracking bin laden.

This is absolutely the case. And the Cole too. Clinton didn't resond on the Cole because they didn't have the intelligence and because he didn't want to let terrorists influence a Presidential election. If Gore had taken office, he would have continued with Clinton policy, responded to the Cole by bombing Afghanistan, put the country on high alert as a result, and probably shaken out the terrorists in this country. We may well not have had a 9/11 at all with Gore in office.

18. Yes, the 60 million dollar blow job investigation distracted the country..
Edited on Tue Mar-30-04 02:14 AM by doubles
When Clinton fired missiles at Bin Laden, first they said he was wagging the dog, then they complained he bombed an aspirin factory, after Bush bombed around 10 American Red Cross facilities in Afghanistan and Iraq, killed almost 600 US troops, over 10,000 innocent Iraqis, costing America $200 billion dollars, and after all this, gas prices are at record highs!

19. The Republicans just can't accept FACTS!
They'll scream and yell about everything peripheral but will never address the FACTS...distort, lie and smear that's all they know.
