As a liberal and a (small "d") democrat, I personally don't make any such claim whatsoever. That's an essential ideological distinction, imho. My own liberal political ideology rejects the notion that "we're better than them." The rejection of that notion is called a disagreement, not a pissing contest about who's "better" than whom. Such pissing contests belong on the factional, cultist right wing. That's not a liberal posture.

Personally, I don't see myself as either "better" or "worse" than any other human being.
