Eerie language of Condi's speech at Rep. convention 2000
Edited on Fri Mar-26-04 11:16 PM by keithyboy
Notice the really eerie remark about 911 (emergency police no.). But the language bespeaks the tone and character of this administration's foreign policy outlook. Notice the comments about allies not needed vs allies when needed. And "no" al-qaeda" and "terrorism" were not mentioned but missile defense was.

<snip>
"George W. Bush believes that America has a special responsibility to keep the peace, that the fair cause of freedom depends on our strength and purpose. He recognizes that the magnificent men and women of America's armed forces are not a global police force; they are not the world's 911.
(APPLAUSE)
He will keep faith with them because they are the strongest shield and the surest sword in the maintenance of peace. And I want to assure you, if the time ever comes to use military force, President George W. Bush will do so to win, because for him, victory is not a dirty word.
(APPLAUSE)
George W. Bush will never allow America and our allies to be blackmailed. And make no mistake about it, blackmail is what the outlaw states seeking long-range ballistic missiles have in mind.
It is time to move beyond the Cold War. It is time to have a president devoted to a new nuclear strategy and to the deployment of effective missile defenses at the earliest possible date.
George W. Bush knows that America has allies and friends who share our values. And he has said the president should call our allies when they are not needed, so that he can call on them when they are needed."

1. Sounds Fishy
As a non American myself I completely disagree with that. The u.s is not the world's police force, it's exactly the opposite. Its the world's thug, criminal. It sounds more to me like they are planning to attack another special interest country. Maybe for oil, maybe just because Bush has no idea where it is, but doesn't like the name. In any case its not good news. I for one am glad that all the "allies" are backing out of Iraq. Its the U.S's mess, they shouldn't have to clean it up. Lets see if Bush has some sort of brilliant plan. They'll probably blame some random country for all the problems in Iraq, then invade it. Thats what this excerpt sounds like to me.

2. You're probably not going to find a lot of disagreement
around here. But do please note that Condi's comments were from 2000, befofre the election.

3. The main points are: no mention of al-qaeda, terrorism
and the swipes at Clinton's policies by the "policmen" statement and the eerieness of the reference to "911."

4. Iraq was on their minds then
PNAC's "Rebuilding America's Defenses" was published in Sep 2000.

In the VP debate, Lieberman and Cheney discussed Iraq at some length.

In his Inaugural speech, Bu$h used the phrase "weapons of mass destruction."

5. Fundie code words
"the strongest shield and the surest sword in the maintenance of peace"

All of their speeches also have Biblical (especially favorite end-times type) allusions.

These phrases are lost on most of the audience, but are the key to Bush*s base.
