with the jokes that Bush told at a dinner last night, they are about the WMDs that were never found and I understand that a lot of people didn't think they were funny..

6. Jack Cafferty read some letters at 9:20; here is my transcript
Edited on Thu Mar-25-04 10:06 AM by VolcanoJen
At the Press Dinner last night, Bush showed photos of himself playing poker with the infamous "Deck of Cards," joking that he played on his way to the G-8 summit, because it helped him remember the names of the leaders. That was pretty sick in and of itself... but then, and CNN didn't show this part, he apparently showed photos of himself looking under desks and what-not in the Oval Office, and told the correspondents "I'm still looking hard for the WMD!" and "They've got to be around here somewhere!"

Thanks to my trusty Tivo, here are some of the better letters Jack read. It's important to note that this wasn't the "Question of the Day," but Jack decided to make it the Question, as he was receiving so much mail on Bush's "jokes."

"Seeing our president joke about WMDs at a comedy function was terrible. How can a thinking, caring human being joke about the lie that led to body bags and broken young men and women? I was appalled."

"It's good the president can joke about blowing $87 billion on a fantasy weapons search in Iraq. He's obviously got a better sense of humor than the American taxpayer."

"I couldn't believe my ears when I heard Mr. Bush joke about WMD. It was tasteless and childish, and shows the true man, or child, in his case. Why didn't he throw in a few 9/11 jokes, too?"

"I caught some of his performance last night and can't believe you inside-the-beltway people laughed. I wonder if the families of the soldiers patrolling there, who died yesterday and may die today, find it as funny as you do."

7. "inside the beltway" in that one email is key --
The people at the dinner see it all as a game, and Bush and his cabal as acceptable, fellow players in it. They live and work together, in the same gig. Long before now, Watergate-era editors and reporters would have realized that even if it is all some kind of game, the Bush administration is not playing by the rules. They're outside the boundaries. There sometimes aren't two sides to be presented when it reaches this point. There's only the side of the people, and our system, and it's the job of the press to dig up the facts, and the truth, inform the people, and help get this cabal out of power.

8. Hey, but I did love Bush's sense of timing......good comedy act.........
...as in doing this bullshit right as all the crap thrown out by Clarke is hitting the fan!!! This just re-emphasizes how this guy is out to lunch when it comes to important, life and death issues in this country. It confirms what Clarke charges about this guy. And to think some dork in his administration wrote these jokes for him---bet that person's ass is kicked out the door this morning!!! It also goes to the heart of how out of touch Bush is on anything that is affecting our nation like jobs, deficit, etc. That's why I so want Kerry to issue a "I'm outraged at his joking" statement today. Come on, come on, Johh, come on!!!! Hopefully the Bush dream team will make many more such ill-timed foot in mouth statements before November.

10. Yesterday's FR Day in the Life of Pres. Bush thread got
me really upset. I saw Bush, some R's AND some D's looking like they were having the time of their lives playing the "game."

9. The Bush* Cabal see themselves as totally "Untouchable"
They are the law so they don't have to worry about breaking it. They have all the cards and they proudly flount it. Their jokes are no sicker than they nthemselves are and it is a reflection upon America that we allow this to continue.

11. So this is his new gig.
I guess the old "I hit the trifecta" about 9/11 got stale.

Out-fricking-rageous!!!
