Cali. Teacher Under Investigation for Acknowledging His Marriage
Edited on Wed Mar-24-04 10:51 PM by QC
Ron Fanelle, a Camarillo middle school teacher, had hoped to keep his personal life out of the classroom.

But that all changed when his seventh- and eighth-grade students recently asked him about a rumor that he was gay and had married his longtime partner in San Francisco. The social studies teacher told his students it was all true.

Since then, the parents of one of Fanelle's students pulled their child out of his class, the father of another accused him at a public board meeting of pushing a pro-gay agenda and Fanelle filed complaints against two teachers accusing them of helping to spread the word among students about his homosexuality.

Meanwhile, the Pleasant Valley School District has launched an investigation into the matter.

Much more detail in the story, including the school district sending a lawyer to question the teacher at home, a parent lying about the matter during a televised school board meeting, and the like.

2. actually in many respects a positive article
The reaction, among middle schoolers, was pretty good. The teacher can't be fired for being gay in CA. The teacher who told her students should be fired but probably won't. I hope things go well for this guy. I was outed among the teachers at my Cleveland school by a fellow teacher which kind of pissed me off. But at least he didn't gossip to students.

5. so far it seems like it's just one parent who has a problem
And it's a parent who doesn't even have a kid in that teacher's class. The kids asked and he answered truthfully, without a lot of detail. If that's a "pro-gay agenda" then I'm a Republican.

6. Between crap like this and Georgia's new anti-piercing law...
You can honestly accuse me of being wrong when I state that we live in a nation of the STUPIDEST people who ever sucked a breath?

Would there even bee a news story here if a student had asked "Mr. Ron, we heard you married your girlfriend last weekend. Is that true?"
No. No parents would be doing stupid shit, the school board wouldn't be wasting resources on listening to troglodytes parroting what they heard on Jim Dobson's radio show....

7. What stinks is the students ASKED him...he didn't go in preaching or...
the infamous 'recruiting' than we are known for. (Humor) People are reacting like he was trying to get his toaster oven early by recruiting entire classes of people at once!
