We need to stop watching Fox News (I'm guilty too)
Edited on Wed Mar-24-04 09:08 PM by wtf
There are many posts, like one of mine earlier today, complaining about something on Fox, so it's obvious a lot of us are watching, even if we're watching because it's a train wreck, we're still watching, and they're still getting ratings. Something hit me earlier...Fox's success is attributed to its large and loyal conservative audience, but how much of its success is actually because of people like us?

It seems silly for liberals to boycott Fox News, because it's kind of assumed we're not watching in the first place, but we are. I would be very interested in seeing what would happen to Fox, its ratings, and its influence, perceived and real, if we didn't.

Maybe it wouldn't make much of a difference......maybe it would...

21. unless you are a ratings houshold, iy doesn't matter if you watch
or not. ratings families fill out diaries or have a monitoring device
provided buy the rating company.

i agree that quiting is good for the blood pressure.

4. I appreciate those who post stories from Faux here at DU
I cannot watch without raising my blood pressure by 20 points, but it is nice to know what is being said so that I am not blindsided by the fundies.

5. To be honest
I get my news online--check the major papers, etc. Use the DU LBN board.

Never watch the shows etc. unless there's something big on like the Clarke interview on 60 min (found out about it...here)

Personally, though, I hate businesses (like my car place) who have the waiting room TV glued to Fox. Makes me ill.

(They probably don't like my Bush Knew and Dean stickers on the car...):P

16. You might be wrong
Satellite, and perhaps cable sends back info about what you're watching

8. I consider it a duty to watch
If I don't know the bullshit they are saying, how will we be able to refute the lies? It's always better to know your enemies than to ignore them.

9. I'm guilty
I only watch it when there is nothing else on but I was watching tonight to see Condi. I thought I heard her say she would testify on the Commission now so she could defend herself and the administration but maybe I misunderstood...hope not.

10. I too stopped watching long ago
In fact an interesting story about faux news is I once came home from school, I am a teacher, to find my wife at home, she is a teacher in a different district which was off that day, watching faux news. She excitedly told me that there had been another school shooting. She had just seen it announced on the news. I calmly asked her where she had heard it, I listen to NPR in the car and had heard nothing so I was skeptical. She told me faux news so I told her to check the other news stations before she believed it since faux makes things up on slow news days. She checked the other stations and of course there had been no shooting and then watched faux for the next hour which never repeated the story or issued a retraction.

11. Never Watch...
...already know how all the stories end. "Republicans good, Democrats "evil". I refuse to support them by watching. Interesting though, you can pick out the people who do by lack of facts in their arguments...they all repeat the same mantra's over and over and over again.

12. the problem is...
on the weekends, they're the only ones not showing "people in the news" (CNN) or "headliners and legends" (MSNBC) re-runs.. Otherwise, I don't normally watch them much.

15. I'll keep watching it
it's the funniest thing on TV some nights. Doesn't make the slightest bit of difference to their ratings and/or profits if you do or do not watch unless you're one of the very few people chosen for ratings surveys

22. It's my understanding you can ask your cable company to block
certain channels for you. I'm calling Cox tomorrow to find out if this is true and if so, I'm having Fox blocked. I would think if enough people actually had their cable companies block Fox, their ratings would go down and in turn their advertising revenues. In my case, having it blocked certainly wouldn't bother me, since I never watch it.
