Today we've heard all about Clarke's many failures, and Condi even implied that he is mentally unstable. How did this man keep his job if he made so many mistakes and was nutty?

3. And why wasn't he fired during the Reagan years.
He was on the job around twenty years. He must have done something right.

4. Pure "messenger" bashing, tar and feather operation,
but you knew that. He seems pretty stoic about it, imho.

Oh, they fired him, but he just kept showing up!
Just like that guy from "Office Space" that gets moved to the basement, Milton.

Hey, I bet Clarke has Georgie's stapler!

6. That must be the personal issue Condi was talking about.
"Clarke was crazy as a loon, we fired him because he was incompetent during the Clinton years but he kept showing up and telling us stuff. Don't believe a thing he says."

5. Actually, they put him in charge on 9/11
He was made chair of the group on dealing with 9/11, right on 9/11. That hardly indicates a lack of confidence in him.

He couldn't have been out of the loop. He WAS the loop.

7. Clarke managed the Situation Room in the WH on 9-11
Never before has our government had to respond to attacks like these, and Clarke managed the entire response on that day. Condi stood aside and allowed him to run everything. Many said that Condi showed her incompetence by doing so. Clarke said that she showed wisdom by recognizing that he was the best one to handle the situation.

He must have come a long way from being so competent, that Condi stood aside and allowed him to run the Situation Room, to being completely incompetent and out of the loop.

What an absurd bunch of liars the current administration is. Do they really think that anybody other than themselves, believes their lies?

9. Our problem is that there are way too many people who believe the lies.
Very few folks are willing to admit they've been had. It's how scammers and con-men stay in business. There isn't really much difference between the little old lady who gets screwed by a "siding" salesman who delivers nothing and a good ole boy who gets the same kind of assault...neither are all that willing to admit they were 'taken'...after all, such an admission is also a confession of being
gullible. It's embarrassing. Ditto for many rape victims.

"Fool me once........don't get fooled again..."

I heard long ago a truism: One of the hardest things to do is knowing how to do something and watch somebody do it wrong, and say nothing.

But even more difficult is to say "This guy made a fool out of me." Perfectly understandable, as offensive as it is. "Blaming the victim" is perverse and unfair, but it's also common and effective.

8. You don't become incompetent
until you criticize the administration. It's a bush admin policy.
