Will Bush feel the heat to apologize for 9/11?
Edited on Wed Mar-24-04 02:25 PM by BeyondGeography
The reaction to Clarke's gesture today by the commission has been strongly favorable. The attendees applauded the first time Clarke was complimented for his gesture.

I think the media will hound Bush to do the same. And Junior won't like it one bit.

Any agreement?

to have empathy. I don't see * as being human at all.

3. Oooh good point--Will the masses see Clarke's apology?
IF they do W will be in a real spot. If they don't (I think the calls are being made now) then he will escape even having to apologize.

5. No, he never admits to anything
Yesterday, Bush said if he had known that planes would be flying into buildings in NYC, he would have done something about it. This skirted the real issue which is:

What did he know about terrorist threats in general?

What did he do about it?

I think Clarke's testimony is telling us the answers to those questions, but I want to hear it from El Presidente.

12. The question, folks, is will he feel the heat to apologize
I agree that an apology won't be forthcoming. But I think he's looking at a truly awful scenario here: Reporters shouting, "Mr. President, do you feel you owe an apology to the American people?" Implication: Your underling has apologized to the families of the victims, why not the boss?

It will happen, IMO.

8. Clarke's Apology Was A Key Turning Point...
* HAS to stand before the country, tears welling up and APOLOGIZE for being a royal fuck-up. This happened on HIS watch and it was HIS fault. Say Bye-Bye to Condi, folks.

30. Need to fire Rumsfeld.
Should have fired him immediately after the second plane crashed into the WTC, and the fighter jets still had not scrambled. This bonehead was in charge of making sure that did not happen.

17. Totalitarians DON'T apologize
Might as well ask if Hitler, Himmler, Stalin, and "Iron Feliks" Dzhzerhzinky apologized.

Same answer.

EXACT same answer.

And Corproate TV Pravda will hound Bush for nothing except today's latest lie to uncritically repeat over and over and over...

22. If I get you, the operative phrase is "feel the heat"
And it is up to us to "turn it up" so he feels it.

Add our voices of support to the 9/11 families, for starters.

There are many things we can do to make him feel the heat.

24. Really?
I think my answers:

No, he won't apologize

and

No, the media will hound him on nothing of significance

were quite concise.

And, since we are guessing what some Founding Fathers would say, I think Mr. Paine would find this King George as odious as the one he railed against.

I also think Mr. Paine would very well recognize the similarities of Totalitarianism's Rise, had he lived through the Commie Revolutions and WWII.

So, I'll see your speculation and rasie you an unfoudned assertion.

27. See post #12, and Post #3
Again: My post doesn't ask: Will Bush apologize? It asks: Will Bush FEEL THE HEAT to apologize?

A subtle difference, but clear nonetheless.

I thought the apology was amazing. He apologized for the admins failures to do anything, which is long overdue. And all the while Bushie still runs on his SUPPOSED goodererness against terra'.

23. As Nixon described his economists--
"Seldom correct, but never in doubt." He will never
admit to any mistakes. It's not his nature and sees
it as a sign of weakness.

25. Yes, he will feel the heat, but
he has no mental ability to admit he has done anything wrong. His handlers will try to get him to say some things that will appear to some as an apology, but there will be no emotion behind it.
Will he feel the heat, yes, but like so many other times that he has been on the hot seat, he has people like Rove and Wolfowitz and Rice to tell him what to say and how to respond. The man is a moron, so he needs other folks to tell him how to behave and act and react and say.

I hope I pass your reading comprehension test. (a poor attempt at humor) Hope you have a good day. I know I will.

Any "apology" from him will strictly be a non-apology.
