Judith Miller wrote the Clarke story
Former Terrorism Official Criticizes White House on 9/11
http://www.nytimes.com/2004/03/22/national/22CLAR.html?ex=1080536400&en=dfda0e077f046e33&ei=5062&partner=GOOGLE

Does anyone here think that this smells? I do. Does anyone have her email address?

She left out as was posted by bain_sidhe
Note that, while there was room for her to write:

Steven Hadley, the president's deputy national security adviser, denied that anyone at the White House had tried to intimidate Mr. Clarke into finding a link between 9/11 and Iraq.

...there was apparently not enough room to note that CBS had two people corroborate the story - one of whom was actually THERE, unlike Hadley.

for those who aren't aware of Judith's part in the cheerleading for the Invasion of Iraq here's a quick google that will lead you to her dirty deeds!

1. I suggest that DUers would be better served to criticize the
story, and not attack the reporter. Just MHO.

3. what? Do you have any idea who Judith Miller is?
Edited on Sun Mar-21-04 11:35 PM by thebigidea
She was backbenched for a while after her Chalabi-loving antics left a lot of egg on the NYTimes' face.

I think that stuff was FAR more shameful than the Blair idiocy.

If ever a reporter deserved some scrutiny, its Miller.

Apparently she had some hotline to Rumsfeld and was ordering around US troops on the WMD hunt! The hell?

6. so you're saying we shouldn't be suspicious of Judith Miller?
Edited on Sun Mar-21-04 11:37 PM by thebigidea
This Clarke story is far too important to let Miller frame for us - suspicion is warranted.

12. Well, I admit I was splitting hairs a bit here...
Sometimes I get a little peeved at personality bashing on DU in general. This probably wasn't a great example to bring it up. I am no fan of Miller.

14. I think it's important that reporters know that if they're going to
interject their personal biases into their reporting, they're going to be held personally responsible.

Miller has crossed the line, and I think it's important that everyone knows her name and that she has no credibility.

How else do you fight her BS?

It should be a sufficient counterargument to anyone holding out her reporting as fact to say, "did you you see who wrote that? Judy Miller! The prosecution rests its case."

10. If you're going to tell people not to look behind the curtain at Judith
Miller's pulling of the levers, you're going to have to make a way more detailed argument.

Toto has pulled back that curtain, and there's no reason to look away.

8. Miller has mader herself part of the story.
She has been a cheerleader for the Republicans objectives.

9. that's the point!
Her reporting of the story is lacking key information, don't you think? Her history of reporting doesn't bode well and why not call a reporter on the rug for not giving all of the facts? If I had not watched the 60 minutes show I would not be able to gather from this reporting that CBS had two people corroborate the story one that was actually there, unlike Hadley. It doesn't give the reader all of the information.

Who said anything about 'attacking' the reporter?

Two independent verifiers.

Changes a blockbuster story into just another election debate.

Judith Miller is why birdcages were invented.

5. Wow, This is Not Much
of a story - considering it's coming from the infamous Ms. Miller.

Is this all she's allowed to do in order to get back in the Times building?

It's nothing but what Clarke said, Bartlet says...and the other usual suspects...nothing added by the opinionated Ms. Miller.

My guess, she's been told....

16. Too bad she didn't add what Lesley Stahl told the world:

that TWO witnesses (one of them present at the encounter) can testify to the meeting between Clarke and Bush* which the Bushistas want to deny ever happened.

7. She lost all credibility
after all her FALSE stories concerning Iraqi WMDs, that came directly from Chalabi.

She should have lost her job.

from TWO sources -- does not specify whether the same two that CBS talked to -- but WP adds that C. Rice also was there....this CAN NOT go away!
