Who will buy and read Clarke's book? Available on Amazon Monday.
I am heading to the bookstore Monday (sorry, Amazon). This is one worth the money - may turn out to be the most important book yet on the Bush Administration. Read it, and for God's sake, share it!
"Against All Enemies: Inside the White House's War on Terror--What Really Happened"

1. I will be buying it ASAP
My wife before 60 Min aired said "I suppose you want to buy his book" when I told her why Richard Clarke was appearing, but after she saw it, she said "You have to buy that book, I want to read it too".

2. Yes, another must have.

I've got 5 sitting on my nightstand as I type but, I think I'll get Clarke's book tomorrow and start on that one first. It certainly is the most damning and current regarding 9/11 and the phony Iraq war.

I guess I should thank bush*. If it weren't for the stolen election and the mess he's made of our country and foreign policy I would still be one of the naive masses who believed in the fairytale that our government is honest and that we have a free and unbias press.

Thanks, putz!

3. Go early to the bookstores - this is going to be a hot sell tomorrow
I've had it ordered for a couple of months on Amazon, but I may just make an early lunch swing to the bookstore and pick it up. I'll just resell my Amazon copy when it comes in.

4. Thinking about it
I'm tempted as it would be useful for the debate section of the forum on another message board I think of as "home".

The only other "political" book I've bought in recent years was David Brock's "Blinded By The Right".

17. Re: Brocks's book, ....
I found it to be a mesmerizing read. It was a great walkthrough of the mindset of the "truth be damned" anti-Clinton forces.

The details are less relevant these days I suppose but the insights into the methodology that was used stay with me.

They haven't changed. ;)

Thanks for the welcome!

36. I really enjoyed that book too. I credit that one with getting me started
on taking a much closer look at politics, the media and the Christian RW machine.

Before reading that book, I was one of those Dems that didn't get too involved, was too pre-occupied just living my life, working too many hours for the almighty buck and figured as long as I exercised my rights to vote, I was doing my part. I rarely questioned the news that was being reported to me back then, now I scrutinize just about everything with a bit more critical thinking.

6. I have read those, too - but this one is more important.
This may be the most important book of the Bush regency. Can't believe Rove got blind-sided on this, and didn't threaten the publisher. Too late now, Karl. This is gonna generate a lot more heat than O'Neill's book, which didn't have nearly as credible a spokesperson.

15. I beg to differ on O' Neill - You may not agree with his politics
But Paul O' Neill is a brilliant man, an innovative thinker, and a very good businessman who has morals. Only disappointment with me was O' Neill caved a bit right after the BFEE apparently threatened him, possibly with criminal charges or something else.

I don't think the 357 Sig carrying Clarke is going to cave to the attack dogs.

21. actually, he didn't cave
I believe he set the record straight on that. Can't recall all the details now but he didn't cave--I think, just said some parts of his book had been blown up and that he wantd people to read all the book, not just focus on those parts.

11. Man, I can't keep up lately. Still have too many on my "to read" pile
yet, and I promised myself the next one I buy is Perfectly Legal. I saw that author on Dobbs, loved his smile and the fact that he's a Republican. This one will have to wait a bit. Still got to get thru Price of Loyalty, Bushwacked and Krugman's book.
I'd get thru these a lot faster were it not for my DU addiction.

25. Bushwhacked is a must-read, too.
But don't count on reading it straight through.

It's more of a book of case studies of what various policies, power grabs and appointments have done to ordiary Americans.

Although Molly herself is always funny, this book is not. It reveals more awful things about Bush's administration than anything I've ever read.

It's a very important book. Not funny, but very important.

30. Me too.
"I'd get thru these a lot faster were it not for my DU addiction."

That is so funny, I have bought so many books, and have still yet to finish alot of them. If I did not spend so much time here on current events, I would have burned through them all. I want to get a couple of Chomsky books that have been recommended here. I promised myself I wouldn't buy any more books until I have finished most of my new library. However, it seems I will have to pick this book up tomorrow as well, have to go to the shopping center anyway.

BTW and off topic, I have really watched you progress in your thinking here over the last few months. I really see it in your Daily Stock Market Posts. I was just curious where you were in the LIHOP category and if you have been persuaded at all? Just wondering. :->

34. Morning Liberalnproud - thanks for the complement!
My thinking has "progressed", probably from all these dang books and DU posts I've been trying to keep up with. :D

If you've been following my posts you may have caught on that I was a "researcher" by trade. I've mostly spent a lot of time researching economic policies, that alone can chew up a lot of time.

As for LIHOP, there certainly is a lot of damning evidence pointing to it, but for me the jury is still out. I think I suffer from an awful lot of denial in that area, I just don't want to think Bushco is THAT evil - something my "beautiful mind" can't handle yet, so I've not done much research into it yet. But, as I said, what I have seen is pretty damning.

Was it LIHOP or just total incompetence and obsession on Saddam (by Shrub) and a return to Star Wars, PNAC and all (by Rummy and Associates) - I don't know.

It's great advertising for the cause. I'm going out tomorrow during lunch break to buy Clarke's book. Thank God we still have the freedom in this country to publish books like this. Thank God our First Amendment rights haven't been damaged that much.

27. I don't need to read it
I already know it's even worse than he said, and that was pretty bad. My favorite part was when he said the Bushcos came back and started working on old issues, as if they'd been preserved in amber. I thought he was going to mention PNAC. I was disappointed that he didn't.

28. I bought it Saturday
and I'm almost done reading it. Great read! Not only does he trash Bush he rehabilitates Clinton. Clinton got it right. Bush I and Reagan and Bush II didn't get it. They were all still fighting the cold war.

There are a couple of places about Clinton that will break your heart.
How badly he was treated by the press and the right wing hate machine.

Read it. Buy it if you can. Would love to see it #1.

Edited on Mon Mar-22-04 07:13 AM by hippywife
Why is it these people are waiting to speak out? So many lives have been lost or horribly disrupted while people like O'Neill and Clarke wait til they're on safe, solid ground to open up. It's the money. They put nothing of themselves on the line when it mattered. Now they are looking to profit from being cowards when it counted.
