Okay you gutless "liberals," I'm calling you out....
What's the single issue that has you motivated to vote in 2004?*

I would have to say that Kerry puts a better face (despite his humongous head) on American diplomacy than Bush, Cheney, Wolfowitz, Ole Squinty Eyes, and Colon-blow could if you put 'em all together. The whole world was with us on 9/12/01....today, we're a blight on the planet. Kerry can at least make some friends for us. After all, we're decent folks.

*The poster of this thread would like to note that single-issue politics is a stupid fucking idea. Said poster has been drinking most of the day.

2. I couldn't narrow it down to one - there are so many
First of all, I wouldn't think of squandering my responsibility to vote, so it's not like I really need to be "motivated". BUT I AM!

The Supreme Court appointments.

National debt.

Iraq War.

Unemployment Rate.

Poor Economy.

Jobless Recovery. :eyes:

NCLB

Bush pisses me off.

Bush pisses me off.

Bush pisses me off.

Bush pisses me off.

Bush pisses me off.

Bush pisses me off.

6. I love Democracy
and I refuse to just watch the Constitution and all the blood shed for it's preservation just be destroyed by the first president who ever stole an election. I love my country, I wish to leave a planet that is tolerant, respectful and beautiful for our children. If we have someone with a conscience in charge, that understood the great strides it took to get where we were 3 years ago, who understood things were good, America was prosperous, and free, then we can have America back. But with this corrupt terrorist Bu$h regime, I see hypocrisies, intolerance, one religion, and division of class that could possibly change the way we live forever. That is more terrifying than any bomb invented..nu'kler or not.

7. the frisson of horror this administration inspires
as well as proving that scifi author Philip K. Dick was prescient as well as brilliant.

They are characters out of the nightmare worlds of novels like Radio Free Albemuth.

Speaking of scifi, I've been watching yet again the TV series Babylon 5.

I'm amazed at the broad similarities between the administration of the President Clark of that series and Bush's.

11. Thank you
Google up "Philip K. Dick" with other terms like "enemies list" "Valis" "Ferris F. Freemont" and of course "Radio Free Albemuth" when you have some (a lot) time. :)

As to Babylon 5's President Clark: He was a politician who illegally achieved the presidency and engaged in conflicts to consolidate his power. He encouraged xenophobia and the spying on of each other by the citizenry (Night Watch).

An amazing show imo, several episodes won the Hugo.

Apologies for going OT, I'm passionate about few things, these are some of them. :)

9. getting medieval on their a**
Well, of course foreign policy, the "blight on the planet" thing ranks up there. For me it's the war, has been from day one. I knew Scott Ritter was telling the truth about WMD's. I KNEW it for a fact. Since then, 580 dead American soldiers, at least 4000 wounded and rotting over at Walter Reed. Ten thousand dead Iraqis according to Amnesty International. 10,000 dead and we can't even imagine that horror. How many were children? We don't even seem to care. I have lost all objectivity. I can't even discuss politics anymore, I just go berserk. The single issue? To get our nations soul back.

16. I've been politically minded my whole life
Edited on Sun Mar-21-04 10:08 PM by HEFFA
Most of my friends and family basically just accept it at this point. I wouldn't say that I've been a Kerry follower or supporter forever, but he's definitely the guy to rid us all of Bush the Lesser. I'm from New England, so I've obviously been familiar with him (Kerry) for quite some time. He's liberal-minded, and I can't find any fault with that. I don't agree with his positions 100%, but the same could be true of any politician. I think that the business of politics (is that an oxymoron?) is much broader than that, which is why I mentioned that single-issue voting behavior is not smart. Thus, all things considered, I'd vote for Kerry twice if I could.

Oh yeah...you've also got to consider that the "head" comment about Kerry comes from a guy with a friggin' HUGE noggin' himself. I can appreciate his cranium.

On edit: thanks for the welcome to DU. This place has become my newest hobby, and I'm thrilled to find so many others with activist, informed, and passionate views.

17. Bu$h was not elected to office.
I have detested him and his fascist dictatorship ever since. I don't really need anything else to motivate me, although there is plenty. I've been highly motivated for over 3 years.
