An idea regarding Novak and the Plame issue
A friend and I were talking over the weekend (he's one of those scary terrorist teachers :P) and he told me that once a week he writes CNN demanding to know why Novak hasn't been fired even though he committed a treasonous act and potentially threatened our national security.

I thought that was an interesting idea, but they can just ignore one guy. I was wondering if any DUers were interested in getting together and doing this too.

1. sure
I still feel that Novak should either tell us his sources or go to jail for deliberately revealing and exposing an active CIA agent. The press is not above the law either.

7. Novak broke no law
somebody in the government did. Targeting Novak is silly. Journalists should never be punished for publishing the truth. Somebody in the White House (presumably) broke the law, and that's where the focus should be.

11. Okay then. A simple request:
"Tell us your source, Mr. Novak."

I'm no legal scholar but if Novak hadn't published Plame's name, she wouldn't have been outed and a crime wouldn't have taken place (of course Rove/Cheney would have gone to some other wingnut pundit, but that's neither here nor there). He's complicit and he ought to answer some questions about his role in this, name his sources, etc. At the very least, he needs to be fired. He was complicit in a criminal act (last I checked, it was illegal to out CIA agents).

At any rate, I think we can walk and chew gum at the same time. Start at the bottom and work our way up.

14. The crime occurred
whenever somebody inside the government who knew Plame was an operative told Novak. Whether he published or not has no bearing on that. The crime had already occurred.

3. Yes, Robert Novak is a traitor...
...and I have the same question, but I've never written CNN about it. Sounds like a reasonable request. I'm for it!:kick:

Be happy to write as many letters as it takes.

6. googlebomb?
Edited on Mon Mar-15-04 05:05 PM by dtseiler
Don't know if this has been brought up before, but I just had a light-bulb come on in my head. Why not googlebomb the word "traitor" to a bio of Novak, a la "miserable failure" and "weapons of mass destruction"?

Just checked, and "traitor" currently goes to what looks like some scary white supremacy page. (edit) oops. looks like exactly the opposite.

8. I thought the very same thing when I saw him on a promo on CNN
He should be off the air---there is nothing a treasonous curr can ever say to me and still remain credible. He broke the law---all the bs rhetoric he's been spouting for years about being tougher on criminals? Time to man-up, beezo. He was man enough to out her, but he's not man enough to take his ass-whippin' for his convictions.

Perhaps someone should ask Howard Stern how he feels about that... maybe it would get him fired.

9. It is VITAL that we all send letters, and not just once in awhile.
NAGGING GETS THINGS DONE! (Check my sig line for giving 'em Hell on the HILL!). NOW, in addition to that (I am sorry to have to add to everybody's "to do" list, not like we're not all busy enough, thank you) we have to nag THE MEDIA.

Shoot - WHERE did I read (from a link HERE, I'm certain) that some media whore stated that a mere 100 letters to MSNBC or some such outlet would change the course of the coverage.

Again, forgive me for nagging YOU, but when I was in radio, and we got even ONE letter, everybody from management on down knew that it was REPRESENTATIVE of a LOT more. My husband, who used to work in radio, albeit more briefly than I did, reminded me that the assumption was - such a single letter was assumed to represent THOUSANDS of similar bent. In a market the size of Los Angeles, that is CERTAINLY no exaggeration.

Please guys. Go to www.takebackthemedia.com and get - one, two, three, maybe a handful of email or snailmail addresses. Or fax numbers. Or phone numbers. ANYTHING. And make your voice heard. It matters. It matters a LOT. ESPECIALLY in the last few weeks when it's being noted everywhere (even sometimes reluctantly) that the tide is turning and people are waking up, and bushie isn't the Teflon God his apologists make him out to be. NOW, more and more people are becoming painfully aware, just by the pile-on of stories about him and hitting back, fighting back, and standing up, being done against him, that he's an emperor standing there naked.

Again, I am sorry to keep nagging like this. I know I sound like a "Janey One-Note." I know I sound like a broken record. But I see the drip-drip-drip turning into slosh-slosh-slosh. And it's because little by little, people are waking up. They're BEING AWAKENED. It's not something they're doing just out of the goodness of their hearts. It's because they're being hit, over and over and over and over, with stuff that is NOT favorable to AWOL. Lots of stuff - of all sorts and shapes and sizes. And like water against the cliffs, or the Colorado River against the land in one corner of Arizona, it starts to wear things down. This is political erosion of the first magnitude. And we all need to take an active role in furthering its progress.

12. Your "nagging" is working
Edited on Mon Mar-15-04 05:17 PM by Jacobin
Just thought I'd let you know that I have started doing letters and emails in response to your passionate pleas.....more than I used to.

Just wanted to let you know you are not calling out into an empty void.

:-)

13. A coordinated effort is really what we need.
You're right, nagging does get things done, and when people nag en masse things happen.

I think DU can accomplish alot when we put our minds to it. The Media is part and parcel of the problem and We the People need to hold them accountable.

You're not nagging it's just common sense and good advice. :)
