Has W done anything well?
I've been wracking my brain to think of one competent thing that W might have done.

Looking back over the disastrous Repug administrations of my lifetime, I can find something mildly positive to say about each one.

Nixon - strong on health care, made friends with China (well, it seemed like a good idea at the time....)

Ford - um, this is a toughie. Maybe he can take credit for a few of Nixon's items.

Reagan - Ok, I hated everything he did, but at least the Soviet Union fell apart on his watch (this seemed like a good idea at the time....)

What does W have on his side? Anything? Anything at all?

1. Nothing. We have to go on the offensive.
When a Republican apologist asks what he's done wrong, challenge them on what he's done right. And then be prepared to refute every single point.

If you're well-informed...which most people are here...it will work every time.

5. Policies against international sex slave trading
Edited on Thu Mar-11-04 06:02 PM by teach1st
The Bush administration, particularly Colin Powell and the State Department, have been actively pursuing policy against international sex slave trading. The child sex/slave trade in Cambodia is a particularly horrible situation and I commend all who are committed to doing something about it.

EDIT: Links were here, but the pages have moved or have been taken down.

An NBC Dateline special report on the trade in Cambodia:

ECPAT is a network of organisations and individuals working together for the elimination of child prostitution, child pornography and trafficking of children for sexual purposes

13. Ok, that is a good one.
At the same time, though, W's administration has been very friendly with Sudan and other countries that promote human slavery. So that's bad.

And a Supreme Court decision makes it a lot harder for prosecutors to convict online child pornographers.

20. But really the thanks should go to Bill Clinton not Shrub
Edited on Thu Mar-11-04 06:44 PM by wuushew
Rep. Christopher H. Smith (R-N.J.), who wrote legislation against human trafficking that President Bill Clinton signed into law, said that he has discussed the issue with Bush and that the president's attention to it springs from his Christian faith. "You can see it in his eyes when he talks about it," Smith said. "He has compassion for the victims, and outrage about the international pimps and exploiters."

-snip-

Clinton signed the Victims of Trafficking and Violence Prevention Act of 2000, which established sanctions for countries that the State Department determines are making too little progress toward the goals of reducing human slavery, including those involving education and prosecution.

23. Set record for vacations
Wash Post recorder keeps detailed records of activities of presidents.

He wrote that during first 18 months Bush spent 42% of his time on vacation.

During wartime!!!!!

to Congress, etc. He is consistent. He has to work on making the lies sound believable though.
