2. WI Kerry Sign

A person on the WisconsinForKerry yahoo group wrote saying his sign was trashed. I suggested he hook up some electricty to the metal frame of the sign for the next punk who tries it.

3. In texas I had Gore signs stolen all the time

of course, that was in Texas. It happens all the time, everywhere, I beleive. We had complaints of it here in small town Minnesota.

I have seen threads on DU where people have suggested/supported vandalism and or defacement of signs or bumper stickers they disagree with.

I don't put up signs or apply bumper stickers, and I don't deface them either.

11. Here in East Hartford, Connecticut...

...I've noticed that a number of "Kerry 2004" signs have disappeared within 24 hours or so of their having been placed around town. Whoever's doing it removes the signs but leaves the wooden signposts sticking out of the ground.

15. My husband works for an electrical supply house

(industrial mostly, dealing with major projects). He picks up a lot of tricks from the electricians and big electrical shop owners who don't like THEIR stuff stolen either.

Like how to wire signs with a mild voltage that vandals will back off from - JK in my yard has a nice little tingle for the repuke that tries to grab it, and it's also stuck into a block of concrete under 3 1/2 feet of pretty packed snow.

17. 2002, two Wellstone signs - first one stolen, second one trashed.

Unfortunately, he died in that plane crash before I got another replacement. ;(

I've heard MANY stories from fellow Minnesotans about their Wellstone yard signs being trashed or stolen, as well as MANY stories about cars being keyed or worse (one person had her car's back window smashed in) due to sporting Wellstone bumperstickers.

Even now, it's common for some a**holes to give folks a finger as they drive by if you still have a Wellstone sticker on your car -- which I, all of my family, and lots of other Minnesotans still do.

Brownshirt mentality is alive and well in the home of the brave and the land of free...

18. I once caught a man stealing signs

I was 16 at the time and coming home from work. At that time I was a Republican (don't ask).

Anyway he was stealing signs that were for my neighbor that was running for re-election. I followed the man home and guess what, he was the other Republican candidate running against my neighbor. I called the cops and it was all over the news (this was in the 80s). Needless to say the man that was stealing the signs lost the election:)
