BBV: steps to call your Senators
BBV=black box voting, voting which doesn't produce a paper record for meaningful recounts. There is a bill in Senate to end black box voting: "The Voter Confidence Act," S.1980.

The only Senators sponsoring "The Voter Confidence Act" so far are Bob Graham (D-FL), Bill Nelson (D-FL) and Charles Schumer (D-NY). The rest need phone calls.

1) You can find the names and phone numbers of your Senators using:
www.vote-smart.org

2) sample phone words:

Hello, my name is _____. Can I speak to someone about a Voting Rights Bill?

Please give a message to Senator ____ to please co-sponsor S.1980, The Voter Confidence Act, to improve the accuracy of our elections.

1. Sorry,
mine have been called and we have both written but they are not interested. Pat Roberts and Sam Brownback, go figure. Our SOS is also not interested but we keep trying.

3. Jim Ryan, congressman
another Republican Bush* clone. Seriously, we have contacted everyone and they do not care, not at all. Dennis Moore is in a different district and he does know. I could send, or call a little reminder to him even though I am not in his district. We do keep trying.

17. Moore is a sponsor of the House Bill
which is similar (I think) to the Senate bill.

5. Keep calling and encourage others to call and write!
After all, they are your REPRESENTATIVES not your LEADERS!
Remind them of that little fact! Tell them if they don't or won't represent YOU you will do everything in your power to remove THEM!

Keep contacting them until they get that message.

I just watched the Lou Dobbs piece, and unfortunately it implied that Hillary Clinton's bill requires paper-ballots. It doesn't. Her bill would do nothing.

Support S.1980, introduced in the Sentat by Graham.

7. Thanks, I was wondering about that.

I was thinking, hey -- did something change? If we could tweak Hillary, she is one that can get a lot of air time with this, and I think that may be worth doing.

On those intractible congressmen: Let them know that those who fight against clean voting gotta be replaced. Their job is on the line. This is something they really hate.

Among the dumbest PR moves I observed was Riverside County's Mischelle Townsend responding to our "you gotta be replaced" by writing to her newspaper and arguing the point. Duh. She just educated 100,000 more people about her controversial situation and made them curious, and she also showed us all that the "gotta be replaced" approach packs a sting.

Yes, call your congressman. If it's deemed impossible, call for them to be replaced. If they can be salvaged, keep the pressure up. Full court press, on multiple fronts, folks.

Can Theresa LePore of Palm Beach be replaced with a man named Arthur Anderson, who supports a paper ballot?

(Theresa LePore not only opposes paper ballots, but also came up with the butterfly ballot).

I found this article which mentions Arthur Anderson, but no website.
http://www.verifiedvoting.org/article_text.asp?articleid=1037

How can we support him?

16. Yes, things are changing. Rapidly...
Edited on Fri Mar-12-04 01:14 PM by GregD
Aspects of the 3 Senate bills are being rolled into one which is sponsored by both Clinton/Graham. We are reviewing the bill, and have no opinion at this point.

Until then, I endorse Eric's statement - VV.org supports S.1980, despite its flaws, until we are convinced that the new bill warrants our support. Is it a complete solution? Absolutely not. But the battle to pass legislation has teh side-affect of spreading the word, creating news and publicity for the issue.

Whose votes? OUR VOTES!

OUR COUNTRY...

OUR ELECTIONS...

MAKE THE CALLS, SEND THE LETTERS, DEMAND SUPPORT FOR THE BILLS OR THEY WILL ALL BE REPLACED!

WE ARE HEARING FROM LEGISLATORS THAT THEIR PHONES ARE RINGING OFF THE HOOK. LIGHT IT UP PEOPLE, SET THE PHONE LINES ABLAZE!

On edit, clarify the combined bill to be introduced by Clinton/Graham.
