The "chilling effect" of the right's reaction to Kerry's post-Nam activity
Todays Drudge headline made me wonder...

"Plea to soldiers: When you leave Iraq, don't leave Army, too"

What might be the effects of the right's vocal obsession with Kerry's post Viet-Nam activity on Soldiers returning from Iraq?

Will they feel more reluctant to speak out against Bush?

or...

Will they be more inspired to speak out?

1. The phrase "Re-up? I'd Rather Throw Up" was a common
one among Vietnam veterans, in particular, those who later demonstrated against the war.

Methinks that's what Sludge was thinking of.

2. Isn't one of the networks doing a thing on this like tonight???
One of the networks or cable nets were advertising about the return of Guardsman (or the deployment of them---whatever) and going to do a segment or special on whether they intend to re-up. I have a feeling not many guardsman want more to do with this crap. Regular military might be different because for a lot of those poor guys it's the best job they can get...though I don't think a lot of them are too crazy about it. I'm just interested to see if they try to do a pro-Bush spin. Geee, if Americans start thinking our GI's have had it up the butt with it all, it could be bad news for the Great War President, you know!

3. They wish war had never stopped killing our soldiers?
Why? Is it so hard to ask a soldier to be the last to die in Vietnam that Americans would kill another ten-thousand or hundred-thousand or million young soldiers? Just to avoid someone being the last one?

Or, is it just important that we could be sitting in our armchairs watching the nightly report telling us how many died today, every day, year after year, just so we can cheer the effort in the war that we will win, just you wait and see.

Gee, to think that we could have been proud to say how proud we are of our 350,000 dead soldiers, and add, who have not fought in vain.

Such pride. Such vanity.
