4. I voted No....
I hate * as much as any DU'er but I also understand the reasoning he has behind it, and the families that support him. However, even if one person objects to it he needs to stop. He is doing nothing but re-traumatizing the victims at the expense of his own political campaign. Countless politicians (Democrat and Republican) have used wars or national tragedies to their advantage, and they say it's "Free speech," but at some point there needs to be a little human decency and compassion otherwise what’s the point of being human...

in the flag draped coffin say? It should be up to them whether or not anyone uses that image.

As for using images of 9-11 where victims are not recognizable, such as distance shots of the towers burning, I say go for it. If you restrict the repugs from using some of these images, then you will also restrict the dems and we wouldn't want to do that now would we?

9. don't think we are talking about censorship, just
answering disgusting speech with common sense speech. but i still want to see the signatures of the 22. until then i think that "open letter" is just more astroturf.

15. Astroturf letters
Edited on Sun Mar-07-04 02:14 PM by lolly
Does anyone remember the incident a few months ago when dozens of letters from servicemen started showing up in local papers--each one telling how the press was ignoring the great things that were going on in Iraq?

Somebody noticed that all the letters in all the different little hometown papers had the same wording . . . soldiers had been asked for their hometown, then "encouraged" to sign a pre-written letter to their hometown papers.

13. Difference between "restricting"
and registering disapproval.

It's not illegal for him to show those pictures; the poll isn't asking whether it should be.

It's tasteless and immoral. There's nothing wrong with letting him know that it's tastless and immoral. And we should keep doing so.

10. what PISSES me of mightily is not the ads, but the dems' SPINELESSNESS
EVERY time a dem on TV sits across from some fatuous apologist who mouthes the sickening talking point "defining moment" he/she MUST counter along these lines:

well, OK, Ms. Defining Moment, if he's SO PROUD of how he's handled 911 and its aftermath, shown such ineffable leadership, WHY oh WHY does he REFUSE to cooperate with the 9/11 commission?
WHY did he try to keep this commission from ever taking place at all? WHY does he only allow a measly hour to testify, when his predecessor will speak for AS LONG as the commission has questions? WHAT DOES HE HAVE TO HIDE?

12.  Done: 79% No - Wow!
This is great to see given that Internet polls tend to be somewhat more conservative.

21. Still 75% NO
He has to play the 9/11 card and go for the emotional impact. What else does he have to run on? Jobs? The deficit? Underfunded No Child Left Behind? The silly Mars idea? The gay marriage amendment? Can't do anything else so he has to exploit the lives lost for his political gain. Sad, but expected.
