Donors included the International Association of Machinists, for $100,000; S. Daniel Abraham of West Palm Beach, Fla., the chairman of Healthy Foods of America, for $200,000; and a gaggle of Missouri residents - home state of another contender, Rep. Dick Gephardt.

The Dean campaign always felt that Gephardt was behind the ads, given that the head of the group is David Jones, a former fund-raiser for Gephardt. The Gephardt campaign denied any connection or coordination, as did Jones.

Actually, the Chicago Sun-Times recently reported, there were Gephardt ties among some donors, but others had connections to Sen. John Kerry and even retired Gen. Wesley Clark.

1. it's logical that someone who hated Dean that much would support another

I was a very strong Dean supporter, but I don't think that those connections are necessarily an indictment of any other candidate. It just means that other candidates for the nomination were supported by some slimy people. I'm sure some slimy people supported Dean as well. There are a lot of slimy people in the world.
