Before people get really upset about that poll with Nader at 6 percent
here's something to keep in mind: Previous Ipsos-Reid polls often showed Bush with bigger leads than other polls (I searched their Web site and couldn't find a link, but I'm certain of this from memory), so having him run about even with Kerry is quite good.

(Also, the article said Nader voters were likely to be young people, independents and the occasional Repuke. No mention of Dems, interestingly.)

And keep in mind Bush's approval rating is 48 percent; incumbents with ratings that low don't win, no matter how many third-party candidates run.

1. Pay no attention to the man behind the poll curtain
I said this on another thread about this poll, too.

It's nine months to the election. I'm going to get worn out if I get upset at every poll somebody who is probably working for the Repugs releases between now and November.

The worst outcome would be for Kerry to dodge and dart in response to these "polls," which are probably totally inaccurate.

3. And we need to realize that Kerry running no worse than
even with Bush is GOOD news.

5. Ya got two people running who voted for the invasion
I'm having to hold my nose to support Kerry, after lots and lots of practice.

To some people, the killing and maiming of tens of thousands of Iraqis to steal their oil and create a base for military operations in a country that never attacked us is a big "so what".

Many of those same people are democrats, and consider the unspeakable horror of that invasion as less important than whether they will be able to get a convenient abortion or have gay marriage.

Many people, including democrats are absolutely and completely and utterly REVOLTED by that concept and view the daily carnage there as an abject failure of any sort of morality or even geo-politically valid planning on the part of this country. And they know that both candidates aided and abetted one another in order to commit the atrocities that we are committing each day there. Those people may choose to vote for someone who did not support the war. We reap what we sow.

6. premature
i will point out to you that ralph was pulling 8-9% nationally at one point in 2000. so don't expect the 6% number to last.

though i'm still voting for him
