She called me today and said that she is "tired of sitting on the fence." She has been an Independent (Decline to State) voter for quite some time. She is a pretty typical swing voter, sometimes voting Dem, sometimes voting Repub, and sometimes for third parties (she went for Nader in 2000).
Anyway, she was pushing for Edwards, and didn't like Kerry at first, but ever since Tuesday night, she's been on board with him. She also said it was time for her to register as a Democrat. Why? Bush* has pushed her over the edge to our side.
A staunch Catholic, she is pro-life, and that issue used to draw her to the Repubs sometimes. However, she is also anti-war and anti-death penalty, and says she finds the RW hypocritical on that issue. I think she now thinks choice needs to be available, even though she is personally opposed to it.
Living in conservative Orange County, she said she is also tired of the way local Republicans campaign. A few of the local assembly district races got pretty ugly, and it turned her off to the GOP even more.
I've convinced three family members to get off the fence and join the Democratic party this year!
(PS My dad, a very conservative Republican, is not happy with my mom's choice. She said "tough"! hehehe)
