My mom (former fence-sitter) is registering as a Dem!
She called me today and said that she is "tired of sitting on the fence." She has been an Independent (Decline to State) voter for quite some time. She is a pretty typical swing voter, sometimes voting Dem, sometimes voting Repub, and sometimes for third parties (she went for Nader in 2000).

Anyway, she was pushing for Edwards, and didn't like Kerry at first, but ever since Tuesday night, she's been on board with him. She also said it was time for her to register as a Democrat. Why? Bush* has pushed her over the edge to our side.

A staunch Catholic, she is pro-life, and that issue used to draw her to the Repubs sometimes. However, she is also anti-war and anti-death penalty, and says she finds the RW hypocritical on that issue. I think she now thinks choice needs to be available, even though she is personally opposed to it.

Living in conservative Orange County, she said she is also tired of the way local Republicans campaign. A few of the local assembly district races got pretty ugly, and it turned her off to the GOP even more.

I've convinced three family members to get off the fence and join the Democratic party this year!

(PS My dad, a very conservative Republican, is not happy with my mom's choice. She said "tough"! hehehe)

Stories like these give me the determination to continue to work on a couple of my own family members.

5. a big
 for you!

Curious who her congressman is... as I hear that B1Bomb Dornan is planning to take on Dana Rohrbacher (sp?) which should leave the winner (both are extremists) very worn down... perhaps if a number of other former indpendent and traditional repubs get disgusted the worn down repub seat might suddenly be winnable...

6. It's Christopher Cox.
He's my congressman, too.

Rohrbacher's district is to the north of us. Dornan lost to him by a large margin. You are right, they are both extremists. Perhaps the Dem contender has a chance in November.

The problem with OC is not just the amount of registered Republicans. If you combine the Dems and Decline-to-States, they outnumber the Repubs. The GOP, however, is extremely organized and the Declines are very apathetic.

OC went to Clinton in the 90s (in 1996 I believe...not sure about 1992 as I was in LA then), so our goal is to repeat that for Kerry in November. :)

7. Interesting...
as the congressional race kicks in... let us know if it looks promising... I would guess that some folks here would be interested and might be able to kick a few donations towards defeating former House Manager (I think) Christopher Cox.
