An Aaron McGruder Appreciation Thread
The Boondocks is the best political cartoon around, I love Doonesbery, but the Boondocks is my absolute favorite. So I wanted to have an appreciation thread for Aaron McGruder, who works hard to keep America informed.

1. Absolutely agree
I love his comic strip and I always try to watch when he's on TV. As a middle-aged white woman, I find my views often best represented by young African American men. McGruder and D.H. Hughley (sp.?) are excellent spokespeople for liberals. They aren't as concillatory as politicians; they don't have to be. So their messages aren't diluted. Yet they're thoughtful and knowledgable. It's gratifying to know they're out there, writing, speaking, and fighting for our country.

2. You've got that right!
It took me awhile to get the hang of Boondocks, but I've been a fan since shortly after the Los Angeles Times started carrying it. Huey speaks what's on my mind so frequently that my refrigerator door is practically a Boondocks archive.

Do you remember a couple of weeks after 9-11 when Bush told us all we had to get back to normal? Huey said to his friend: "So what's normal for me?" -- "Criticizing Bush."

Aaron MacGruder has the edge that in Doonesbury has somewhat blunted over the decades, though I will always remain a fan of Gary Trudeau's strip and can still recall my favorite episodes. It's just great to see another great talent rising.

Thank you Aaron MacGruder!

5. I saw him speak just after 9/11
in October 2001 I think.

It was absolutely amazing.

He actually was saying things that people were not saying in public.

Making fun of the people who had suddenly "found" the US flag.

My favorite line: Those people aren't patriotic. They're SCARED!! If they were really patriotic they would have been in the streets protesting in November 2000 when BUsh stole the election.

The guy is amazing and courageous.

It's funny that some of the best and most courageous people speaking out are the cartoonists: McGruder, Ted Rall, Tom Tomorrow...
