Observation on Fiscal Conservatism

I got into a talk with a friend about Conservatism. Lately, i've been hearing more people backing away from the term Conservative, to the "lighter & friendlier" Fiscal Conservative. It got me thinking..... and i believe Fiscal Conservatism is more f**ked up than a full blown good old fashion "bigotry" and "i'm afraid of progress" Conservatives.

At least with a regular Conservative you can pretty much gauge their political stance. The part the i find f**ked up is in the term "Fiscal Conservative." this implies that the only driving force to their political ideology is money. See how cold that is? Maybe some Fiscal Conservatives are Liberal on Social issues.....If that's the case why not just call yourself a moderate?

2. Fiscally Liberal

I'm fiscally liberal. I don't think it means wasting money, but about spending the money necessary to improve education, the environment, healthcare, etc. I really don't care about the deficit either. I just think that money is better spent by the government. Too many people waste their money on things like fancy clothes, cars, electronics, etc. That money should be spent on the poor.

I think its a bad habit to spend money you don't hve, especially when it becomes a prolonged and growing debt which is what many people who paint themselves as fiscally conservative tend to favor. Although there are alot of f.c's that are just tight asses and don't want to spend anything on something that doesnt make money.

How can someone devote an ideology totally on greed and think it's better than an old fashion conservative?

I've only come into contact with a few, and maybe I just had the misfortune of debating with a particularly nasty lot, but their arguments portrayed “an ideology totally on greed” to use your words. Their fiscal ideas were far beyond right wing. Socially, they liked to say they valued individual freedoms, but what it really came down to was they didn't care.

how are you sure that their ideology is based solely upon greed? Are you sure they just don't like spending alot of money?

I think that you are right that borrowing over a long period is not good, that's why taxes need to be high enough. But we shouldn't be too worried about borrowing to invest in people.

7. There are a huge number of people. . . .

in this country that are fiscally conservative and socially liberal. To classify them as moderates belies the fact that most put more weight on one or the other when they enter the voting booth. I would rather know which way they lean than to have no idea.
