A call to DUers! How do we subvert Bush's ads?
We are mad, we are organized, and we will work for nothing more than the sheer pleasure of seeing Bush go down.

We need to put our collective heads together and create responses to the Bush ads. He may have millions, but that don't equal the amount of pent up anger we all have. Multiplied by DU.

I think every ad he puts on should be recorded and redone. Keep the soundtrack, change the picture. Bush shows us a montage of himself standing in the rubble of the towers, we show the timeframed clips from the elementary school and the firemen in NYC, the "trifecta" headline. Bush uses the flightsuit sockmonkey footage showing him strutting under the "Mission Accomplished" banner, we show the rewards offered by various folks for evidence of Bush's National Guard duty. If he tries to depict himself as some messianic saint for our times, we show him bombing Baghdad.

He even mentions the words "honesty," "trust" "values," we counter with a montage of WMD footage flashing across the CNN banners, we show Colin Powell holding a vial of anthrax at the UN in front of a copy of Guernica.

He shows us grateful seniors, we show nursing homes, the homeless and shots of seniors counting pennies to buy drugs at the pharmacy.

We counteract lies with truth. We learn to outsmart them at their own vicious game. There's more of us. And we're smarter. We also happen to be the good guys.

We need to start making and posting our own grassroots productions.

I know there are many DUers with the talent and the desire to rid the world of this menace. How can we band together to fight the commercials? I'm sick of just screaming at the TV. I want to take some grassroots action!

How can DUers fight back? If a few whining fools can make a federal case out of Janet Jackson's breast, we ought to be able to make a fool of that pig's ear of a president currently installed in the white house.

I am in a FIGHTING MOOD! Anyone else?

11. I agree wholeheartedly
MoveOn.org has proven itself to be effective. Money given to them will absolutely be money well spent, and in fact it is time for me to send another donation.

I think the idea of coming up with counters to Bush*s' ads is right, but I'd add a caveat. Communications of this sort are a professional skill. We can come up with the ideas, the concepts, but it takes a pro to translate that into an effective ad IMHO.

In any event - one thing our effort is going to need besides talent and anger is money. I plan to send some to Kerry's campaign as well as MoveOn. The election will not go to the highest spender, but we have to get our message out. That will take bucks. It sucks, but it is reality.

19. Not every DUer has money but many have talent, passion and energy
Don't dismiss us. I could rattle off a list of DUers whose talents have translated into direct action. Symbolman, American Stranger, MoPaul, Pocho, Nothingshocksmeanymore, Sterling, Nostamj, Will Pitt and a bunch of others who have sustained and nourished me over the past three years. They did what they did with little money but much heart.

We don't need no stinking professionals to act for us. I don't anyway. I'm going to take action as the spirit moves me even if it means I have to wage a peasant revolt of one.

Sharpening my pitchfork now...

23. Being unemployed...
... I'm not exactly rolling in money either. I did not intend to ruffle your feathers, I'm aware of the work of the "non-professionals" here.

But I still believe PR is a professional pursuit. Things that resonate with DUers are not necessarily going to resonate with the public at large. IMHO.

4. Agreed
I posted earlier today that we need to open a "Second Front" much like Moveon.org is doing. We have some very talented Duers here and we could join the battle and we bloody well should..........

6. Anti-Dubya Citizen Media
There is so much anti-Dubya stuff out there created by citizens just using their computers. The MoveOn ads, the silly flash games and awesome flash movies. It's a renaissance of progressive media arts & crafts! And nothing scares these fascists more than artists.

A lot of stuff is posted at the various indymedia.org sites.

My contribution is a song, soon (I hope) to be a video too. Except we didn't record the song on a computer. :-) Hubby is old-fashioned that way.

7. Yep, and I got my first email from the Kerry campaign today.
I'm gonna work on my budget and figure out what I can contribute so he can fight back with some great ads!

We need to stay specific, I think. Greenspan telling the schmuck he has to decide to either cut the budget or cut SSI benefits. Where the new jobs are going, and that it's not just manufacturing, but anyone who can work at a desk with a phone and computer.

12. Bush as "messianic saint?" Throw the Bible back in his face
Edited on Wed Mar-03-04 10:54 PM by chair094
Jeremiah 14:14
Then the LORD said to me, "The prophets are prophesying lies in my name. I have not sent them or appointed them or spoken to them. They are prophesying to you false visions, divinations, idolatries and the delusions of their own minds."

I'm sure there are quotes aplenty out there where Bush claims to be on some mission of God. We need to pair these quotes with what the Bible says about false prophets. Imagine how the fundies would react:evilgrin:

Edit: We could also point out how Bush idolatorizes money :D

That false angle hasn't been explored enough! It's just the kind of thinking those fundie sorts respond to.

that sign just really got me. this is what i want to go to too. i dont like this at all. and i really think the millions of christians not voting for bush has to say wait............

but in a giggle, we see that he certainly went up a notch for his vp, from bush/cheney to bush/christ.........we were just talking if cheney was out

i just so strongly feel some way we have to get the people embracing this think twice, after all this is missing with something important to them

I was thinking the very same thing - especially the image of reading to the school children.

Sort of "Where was pResident Bush when...?" ads.

Go for it!

20. Give what you can
Kerry needs money. He also needs to tie into the Dean and Clark meetup/internet network. He needs a grassroots campaign. So let's organize and make it work.

22. So the poor, the unemployed and others should just go home?
I'm feeling a bit marginalized here with this "the only thing you can do to help is give money message." My money was in a lockbox last I heard. Now it's gone. All I have left is my voice. I don't have any more money to give to millionaires.

I just have the desire to see Bush out of office. And I have been fighting a peasant revolt for three years.
