bush is our fault....
If we had demonstrated on the streets and kept on demonstrating after florida until the election was honestly done (or even had a new election with oversight) shit head wouldnt be in office today. By simply shrugging and saying oh well look how civilized we are - we didnt start riots like they do in 3rd world countries, we dug our own graves.
Now the mantra of lest move on becomes the perpetual war cry of those screwing us.
sorry if i sound so angry but i was 20 in the 60's and got my head knocked a couple of times during demonstrations and i dont understand why they arent happening now.

1. No one had any idea
Only Molly Ivins and Jim Hightower had any idea how bad this bozo was.

17. No one? Hell, i did.
I remember whispering a prayer under my breath during the gore/bush debates in the fall of 2000, that that evil lying malefic hateful husk of a man, was (and is) a criminal felon.

I could hear in his voice the murder of 1000's of people. The only
truth that came from him was hate and divisiveness. Am i the only
person not stone dead? Come on, i'll wager a good many of the folks
on DU knew EXACTLY how bad this scumbag was, way before november,
or that florida crime was perpetrated.

The only thing he has not done is get 100 million americans killed
in a nuclear war. Rather he's just setting the ground for that. If
20 years go by without that happening, then call me "wrong" about
the AWOL. However, i'm not wrong. He is one of the worlds foremost
mass murderers, who will claim that the nuclear holocaust he has
instigated, is not his fault, just like everything else that has
happened on his watch. Nothing is his fault, nothing is his responsibility, he's a fucking eggplant.

2. Well, for starters,
our then nominee (Al Gore) and his patsy VP said "oh, the system is working" let's be nice, don't fight. He also made the colossal mistake of not asking for the whole state of Florida to recount, not only in the counties where he thought he would win. When the congressional black caucus came to the floor of Congress and asked for help, no one - NOT ONE Senator or Congressperson would support them - that's why. Our own leaders screwed us and now they are choking on it.

when America remembers it's activist roots and the people of this country grow some cohanes, maybe, just maybe things might change. But, don't count on it. The American people are soft, cowardly and want their TIVO. That's all the masses really care about. Reality bites.

5. In reading Kevin Phillips book American Dynasty....Gore should
of done more and he had the power to do it.
The Democratic Party should of known how this was going to play out.
How frickin dumb can they be???

And how obvious can it be with W's brother Jeb in Florida..duh in a very key state.
All of us could see these guys were crooks from the get go.

Kevin Phillps explains this much better than me trying to do it.

9. One example cited by Kevin Phillips
was the fact that the GOP spent $13.8 million on lawyers, salaries, travel, and hotels during the Florida recount,

while the Dems spent only $3.2 million in comparison.

6. Agree.
We should have taken to the streets and stayed there until they shot us down. But the real source of our failure lies elsewhere. The left was tepid at best about Gore and they gave us this piece of crap... and I won't be surprised if they do it again.

Ignorance is no excuse because there was plenty of information to show how bad * really was. Much of the stuff that has come up after the election was available, to those who sought it, before the election.

Even ignoring this information, anyone who was familiar with repug politics would have recognized * as the candidate of the extremists. And there were (and are) those three million people living in colonias in Texas, to say nothing of the Texas repug style of governing itself.

How anybody could have believed that * and Gore were much the same or that * was anything other than a miserable, posturing extremist is beyond me. There was and is simply no excuse.

If I have offended anyone by these statements, I apologize. There is nothing personal in them, just a lot of anger at an inexcusable, foreseeable and preventable series of disasters that has overtaken my beloved nation.

7. I agree that we could have done more
than just sit by passively and watch people like the rightist, and Opus Dei member, Antonin Scalia, determine the fate of this country.

We know he has gone on elite "Quail hunting" forays with Dick Cheney.

I have a neighbor that goes quail hunting also--a rabid, racist to boot. If I am correct in my intuition, Cheney and Scalia, are also rabid racists as well or at the least, unconcerned about the American people and only thinking of themself, their wealth and their role in skewing the politics of this nation to suit their personal, ego driven, vision.

I honestly do believe that Cheney does not give a shit about this country and I honestly do believe that Scalia will do everything he can to promote Cheney and his views. After all, it will certainly be a hard thing to do to give up quail hunting with the vice president of the United States--one that you installed.

I wonder on those hunting trips--does Cheney defer to Scalia because he helped the coup, thereby is responsible for Cheney having the job and the position he enjoys,)and just look at all he has enjoyed since then) or does Scalia defer to Cheney because he is the vice president .

8. Voices
Voices usually go unheard until people get really pissed off. Look at how surprised the talking heads are that we are angry. If they had been truly listening, then they would not have been surprised. Or is it that they just do not care?

10. I was clueless enough to have VOTED for the bozo.
Edited on Wed Mar-03-04 07:07 PM by Ladyhawk
I thought Gore and Bush were equally bad choices and decided to vote the Party line. (I was a nominal Republican back then.) My mother was all upset about the situation, saying, "Oh no...what if this leads to civil war?" I said, "Over dumb and dumber? Get real."

My bad.

Note: I really only got my news from mainstream sources, which painted a very negative picture of Gore that was untrue. I did not yet know that the mainstream media was bought and sold. It took awhile for me to figure it out on my own.

Edited on Wed Mar-03-04 07:05 PM by Turbineguy
He is. He did it

Just think, if Babs had gotten an illegal abortion (Bush family doing something illegal? I'm shocked, shocked!), how the world would have been a better place now.

But laying all the blame for what Bush has done on us isn't fair.

14. yup
We should have fought back much harder. Gore's big mistake was not to do the right thing and call for a full count of ALL the votes in ALL the counties. Then again of Gore had been a fighter all along it wouldn't have been close enough for Bush, the Supreme Court and Ralph Nader to steal it in the first place.

Luckily it looks like Kerry will fight back just as hard as he is attacked!

Austin, Texas. I had to have the police peel someone off of me who felt that they just had to tell me that black people shouldn't work in elections offices.

16. We were asleep at the wheel.
I, for one, stayed that way for a while until I woke up and started to get alarmed. I always thought Gore and the Party gave up too easily, but hell, what could they do to hurt us? WRONG! If any of you can tell me honestly that you knew all the consequences of having and PNAC/neocon directed puppet in office, I'll tip my hat and ask for guidance in the future. No sarcasm intended. We all bear part of the burden, therefore we have the task of righting it. We are on the correct path to do just that. We must win.

Woof

18. Der *dauphin ist LEIDER
a very accurate reflection of the collective American consciousness. The vast majority of those who post on this beloved board have eyes, ears, experience and a dedication to what were once "true" American values as embodied in the Constitution. THOSE were the traits that the ROTW embraced. Alas, YOU have ALLOWED the *cabal to use it as asswipe.

Last year 10 MILLION were in the streets. I ask you in all sincerity WHAT PERCENTAGE OF THOSE WERE AMERICAN? Some days ago in Taiwan there was a human chain with A MILLION PEOPLE. Was it Fritz Hollings who asked the OBVIOUS question?

20. and why not start now,
March 20 is coming up very fast. Pick a spot, do the whisper campaign, get people out there. We know the media doesn't report shit, they don't even care Miami happened. The only way to do anything is to get people out on the streets. Make index cards , leave them in the papers, paste them to the gas pumps, run thru a parking lot and put them on windshields. MARCH 20, 2004. It's up to us, the curious will show up, along with the undercovers and the rest. But the country will see we're not a "focus group".

about having a mob crack a few skulls on the gop Florida goon squad. At least stand up to them and let the recounts go on.
I think there is a special place in hell reserved for every last one of them.
