A quote from the past which relates to Marriage Discrimination Amendment.
"Intermarriage between whites and blacks is repulsive and averse to every sentiment of pure American spirit. It is abhorrent and repugnant. It is subversive to social peace. It is destructive of moral supremacy, and ultimately this slavery to black beasts will bring this nation to a fatal conflict" - Rep. Seaborn Roddenberry (R-GA) in 1911 on a proposed constitutional amendment forbidding interacial marriage.
He's on the fence about the gay marriage and I told him that it draws big parallels with the problems when blacks/whites wanted to get married. Now we look back at this and think of how stupid they were. Hopefully our grandchildren will look back and this day and think we were crazy for ever thinking something like this.
