http://www.dearmary.com/mary/index.html to send a letter to Mary Cheney about her father's policy to support * and the FMA. She is the most highly visible gay person in the white house. Here is the letter I sent to her...
Dear Mary,
How can you sit by and let you father support this type of Amendment to the Constitution of the United States. I came out to my parents when I was 17 - they kicked me out and I ended up living on the streets. I finally found may way on my own but not after having to endure some pretty harsh stuff out in the cold world. Most of the people that helped me were other GLBT folks - my best friend was a lesbian that shared her pain with me as well.
My parents still don't talk to me and it has been a very difficult 11 years. I have devoted my life to help other GLBT youth not to have to go through the same experiences that I have. It has taken me quite a while but I finally found happiness in my life with my partner of 8 years. And now your father, Vice President Cheney, is supporting legislation that will basically tell another generation of American youth that they don't matter and that it's OK to discriminate against them - much like I felt when I was an adolescent.
I took a stand against my parents to be true to who I am - don't you think you should too.
Sincerely,
Nikolas
