Gary Bauer: Homosexuality more deadly than smoking
Bauer: "More importantly, however, the government has an obligation to promote public policy that is best for the general welfare and to discriminate against behaviors that adversely impact society and public health. Tobacco use is heavily regulated by the state and smoking is strongly discouraged. A major study conducted by Oxford University demonstrated that homosexual conduct is three times more deadly than smoking. Homosexual behavior is fraught with adverse health affects. Again, this is not opinion, but documented medical fact. "

Who IS this Bauer person and what influence does he have? He kind of sounds like a WACK-JOB to me!

I picked up this quote elsewhere:
"He is now very much the voice of the Christian right wing. He was threatening to take his toys and go home if Bush didn't come out in favor of the FMA or an equivalent amendment."

As a political newbie, I'd heard his name before, but I dont know who he is.

8. Yes ...
there was a paper in Boston, "Editorial Humor" that would show editorial cartoons from around the world. They had an essay contest: "If you were to be stuck on a desert island with one of the presidential candidates, who would it be and why"?

The winning entry wrote: "I'd want to be with Gary Bauer. He's small, so if I needed to, I could overpower him and eat him."

Edited on Wed Mar-03-04 12:24 PM by BiggJawn
Did you see THAT one? I take that to mean that Alan Greenspan and Bob Brinker should be judges, since they both know something about MONEY....

I'd rather have a Judge who was conversant in the laws of the Land and the Constitution...
But that's just the way I am.

6. If memory serves
I believe that he made an aborted run for the presidency in '92. And as far as Homosexuality being more dangerous than cigarette smoking, well, chances are that if a homosexual dies of lung cancer, then he or she was a smoker. If a homosexual gets aids, then perhaps they were promiscuous, perhaps they contracted it from somewhere else. Sometimes I think that all the money that was spent on sending these wackos to college was totally wasted, because they didn't seem to learn anything.

28. Gee, Ya Think!!!
You hit on one of my favorite lines! I also look at these buffoons and suggest that whatever college granted them a degree should have their accreditions revoked, because they're obviously doing something wrong. If an idiot like Bauer got a college degree, it's obviously too easy to get through college.

22. In other words
(a) the data for the life expectancy is now seriously out of date, due to advances in in AIDS treatment
(b) because the spread of AIDS was due to promiscuity, gay marriages will be a valuable tool in increasing stable homosexual relationships, decreasing promiscuity, and thus increasing public health. Has anyone pointed this out to Bauer?

29. What possible use would that be...
since the little pantload has no interest in truth-- only in pushing his agenda.

Before reading much about the report, it seemed obvious that promiscuous bisexuals would be transmitting AIDS and STDs more widely than other groups and have severe health problems.

The point is about promiscuous bisexuals who don't practice safe sex. Somewhat more dangerous than promiscuous heterosexuals who don't practice safe sex, but pretty much the same public health problem.

But it's a public health problem, not a springboard for gay bashing.

And, yeah, monogamous homosexual couples have little or no chance of catching or spreading any of this. Gay marriage for the public good.

13. idiot
"Tobacco use is heavily regulated by the state and smoking is strongly discouraged."

Yeah, but it ain't illegal and smokers can marry.

The only argument these people have is "the bible tells me so" and they can't say that out loud which causes them to sound absolutely ridiculous.

15. I do believe that Bauer is a former head of the Christian Coalition.
Another fucking r/w nut. Where do these people get their views? Did anybody see Sandy Rios of Concerned Women for America last night on Bill Maher? Her take on gay marriage was that the gays are destroying our civilization just as they were responsible for the fall of the Roman Empire. My whole family was ROTFLOAO, but it really is a shame these people have such hatred and dread.

He linked the report from the scientists who did the study. They said their study was NOT meant to be used in a political way like that and the facts stated by Bauer were SEVERELY distorted.

I've met real conservatives who aren't keen on homosexuality-- but they total think about it on religious principles. They do not start pulling illogical bullshit out of their asses. Homosexuality more deadly than smoking?! Last time I checked, you can't become gay by just hanging out with gay people. Most of the guys I hung out with in the dorm were gay, and I didn't suddenly get the urge to wear leather pants or listen to Fiona Apple. I lived next door to a gay couple in college. I didn't worry about second hand blue balls or gag reflux. However, we do have lots of emphesema & lung cancer in the fam b/c over half of my relatives smoke.

I don't mean to be vulgar or childish, but this is the only way to bear in mind how DUMB this statement is. Going by this numbnut's logic, being Black is a more deadly than a crack pipe. Fuck man, I need to cash my Social Security now!!!! :eyes:
