Does it make sense for the accused to also have their identity shielded? If the person is innocent or at least shown not guilty they are still essentially wrecked.
Also a case could be made that shielding the identity of the victim continues the stigma rather than help end it. But prosecutors swear that few women would come forward without.
And I think the accused should be asked to name who sexually assaulted them since most rapists have been abused at one point. This is similar to an STD where a patient must give a history of who they may have infected or been infected by. But I look at a lot of crimes in turns of pathology rather than demonic possession or evil so I would like most people to be given a real shot at rehabilitation.
And finally, Fathers need to teach sons that "no" means "no". And that "maybe" means "no". Only "yes" means "yes". We keep educating women on how to not be raped but spend little time teaching men not to do it.
and for real finally this time...the backlash talk about how Universities have too strict a definition of rape or assault and how women are treated too fairly in the process kind of makes my skin crawl. There are virtually no false rape claims. It is somewhere below 5%.

It's a concept in our society that if the government is trying to take away your liberty, it's a public matter, and people should be informed about it and able to observe.
Grand juries (pre-trial to indict or not indict) are secret.
But Kobe Bryant was indicted, and now there will be a public trial.
