Howard Stern just said that he WAS knocked off CC because of his anti-Bush
stance. He said that he's been getting threats about not talking about/making fun of Heather Wilson any more as well

5. WilsonWatch.org
I didn't know who she was either but saw this on one of Howards fan sites.

<snip>
Howard Stern Silenced over Speech against Congresswoman

In a landmark fit of hypocrisy, Heather Wilson, who took thousands of dollars in Enron contributions, and who got Enron a tremendous tax cut, released a statement on her web site accusing Viacom of Enron-style "unacceptable corporate financial behavior" in relation to the Janet Jackson Superbowl mishap. (<wilson.house.gov>, "Wilson Compares Viacom to Enron", visited 2/27/04.) But Heather Wilson is part of the very unacceptable corporate behavior she attacks. She's using her own Enron scandal as an example of what not do to while forgetting to mention her own Enron connections.

11. Congresswoman from New Mexico
She's a republican, a veteran -- often appears on Bill Maher excusing Bush.

She apparently was very vocal after the Janet Jackson thing.

Rush's immediate defense of Stern reminds me of Capone sending flowers to the funeral of a rival.

and they are screwing with exactly the wrong guy this time. The only way to shut Stern up will be with a bullet or a short ride in a small airplane.

23. And that's one guy they can't do that to
As an entertainer, people are permitted in the New Amerikan Poltikal Korrectness to discuss ulterior motives in the suspicious deaths of entertainers.

Not Democratic politicians, mind you, but entertainers.

So, Stern is probably physically safe from being Wellstoned.

14. CC hypocrisy - Ryan Seacrest callers swear up a storm
On his new radio show on Clear Channel - which had no delay at all - the first several callers on Ryan Seacrest's new radio show all swore up a storm. This was while the CC folks were testifying, so very close to the Stern incident.

Seacrest is still on the air.

20. Stern Play An Interview
Again...the disclaimer...I'm not a Stern fan, but have been listening in recent days. I think Stern's handle this fairly well and I've discussed in other posts what I believe Clear Channel's many motives are here.

Today he played an interview (maybe someone can pick up on who this was)...it was some lady who was being interviewed on a cable or local TV show sputtering that Stern was indecent and it was about time the FCC clamped down on the laws.

Stern properly said that what he was yanked on was not a swear word and did not express either sexual or excratory (or as she said esscritory) functions. No FCC violation. The person in on the tape also confronted this lady with that fact and she just went on with the talking points that the Supreme Court upheld the FCC (no such case...the FCC FEARS the Supreme Court as a true contitutional test on both language and frequency allocation would destroy any authority the commission has) and blah, blah, blah. She sounded so foolish and totally ignorant.

Stern is the target for the reason you're seeing here...he gets noticed. It's been a week and we're still hearing about this. The right wing is playing it to show how "moral" they are (great diversion from the immorality of the Iraq invasion) and beating up on the evil "liberuls".

I still find it so ironic to go on smokinggun.com and see all the FCC complaint letters...all of them 12 to 24 hours AFTER the incident. I hope Stern keeps on talking and pushes things further...without the violating the letter of the very vague law...he's gaining a lot of respect by doing so.

Stern's biggest sin, IMHO, is appealing to 25-54 year old me...the base of the GOOP...the dittoheads...RoveCo. doesn't want someone polluting their airwaves bashing their manchild.

21. Howard fan here
I don't get to enjoy his radio show since all we get here is Right-wing crap 24/7 (thanks Clear Channel!) but I do enjoy his show on E!

Howard is entertainment, but he does wield power in the media and if he uses it agianst censorship & Bush, then more power to him.

Of course the nay sayers on DU said to get out the tin foil,it had nothing to do with Bush. BS,it had everything to do,thinly disguised as a "decency move".

CC LOVED Stern when he was boot licking Bush a year ago, didn't give a RATS ASS about his trash mouth.

26. This is probably the transcript that got Stern booted
Clear Channel booted Howard the day after he said THIS on his show.

This is probably the real reason he got booted - after 2 and a half years of supporting Bush, Howard finally turned on him - and turned his millions of yahoo listeners against Bush as well.

= = =

Howard: ...over the vacation I read Al Franken's book, Lying liars who... it's great.

Robin: Yeah?

Howard: It's a great... He is phenomenal.

Artie: He's a funny guy.

Robin: That's the one that Bill O'Reilly was upset about.

Howard: I can see why.

Robin: Yeah?

Howard: He does a thing. It's really funny... I bought the book, and I said on my vacation I'm going to read Al Franken's book. Lying liars who lie... I don't even know the title. And uh... the first page he insults me.

Robin: Really?

Howard: yeah, he talks about how I'm, like me and uhh Ann Coulter are McCarthyites or something... like ya know it's was just really insulting. And I And I And I And I just said, ya know...

Robin: You, and Ann Coulter, that's interesting.

Howard: I can get past this if Al doesn't like me. But, I'm not even sure why I'm like McCarthy, but, evidently I am, according to AL and ya know what, if Al says it it must be true because

Robin: because you loved this book and he was right on about everything...

Howard: I loved the book, and he seems to be right on about everything. If you read this book you will never vote for George W Bush.

Robin: Yeah?

Howard: Because, what he does is, he takes everything that you've seen in the newspaper, and goes back and he get 12 Harvard kids...

Artie: (Laughing)

Howard: ...to research everything and to find out what really happened...

Robin: uh huh?

Howard: and when you find out the truth about stuff, it is just frightening and he does a chapter on uhh on Hannity and Colmes from the Fox news network that is so funny... I mean I can't even tell you how funny it is.

Robin: Really? I've got to get this book.

Howard: Somebody outta fund him some money then let him make a movie like what's his name does, Micheal Moore.

Robin: Yeah.

Howard: Yeah. He is he is really good.

Robin: Well he's going to be on that radio, the liberal radio network.

Howard: I'll listen to him. I'll listen to him if it's as good as that book.

Robin; that's what he's planning to do

Howard: Lying liars who lie or something like that

Robin; I know it's all about lies that lying liars tell.

Howard: Yeah, and it's really funny.

Artie: Well he's one of those guys even if you disagree with his politics you think he's funny...

Howard: Yeah!

Artie: ...because he's such a funny guy

Robin: But he convinced you it sounds.

Howard: Oh oh... he was so it was awesome, the book is awesome. I'm going to give tone...

Robin: All right, I'm going to get it.

Howard: ...to Scott Depace who's like one of those guys who the republicans can do no wrong.

Fred: (Southern Accent) No thank you!

Howard: (Southern Accent) I'm not readin' that!

Fred: (Southern Accent) I'm not readin' nun uh dat der bull...

Robin: (Southern Accent) I don't want my mind opened.

Howard: (Southern Accent) Don't open up my mind.

Robin: (Southern Accent) I like it closed.

Howard: Well I've been feeling really horrible about George W Bush since what's going on with the FCC and what's going on in this country with stem cell research. What's going on now

Robin: the abortion thing

Howard: the abortion thing. I feel that there's way too much government in our lives, and I can't believe G W Bush is behind it. I think this guy is a religious fanatic and a Jesus freak.

Robin: Uh huh.

Howard: and he is just on a hell bent on getting some sort bizarro agenda through, like a country club agenda that his father will be finally proud of him. And uhh I I umm I don't know much about Kerry but I think that I'm one of them anybody but Bush guys now, ever since the FCC stuff went down and it directly effects me and even some of the things with the economy.

Baba Booey: Don't you think that it's weird...

Robin: Well, the economy is a big a huge issue.

Howard: I don't think G W is going to win. What do you think of that?

= = =

So, suddenly John Hogan, Bush Ranger and CEO of Clear Channel discovers that Howards Stern talks about pornography on his show and is offended.

The day after Stern made the above remarks.

Coincidence, I'm sure.
