http://www.dfw.com/mld/startelegram/news/state/8027020.htmGov. Rick Perry made a whirlwind trip to Washington on Sunday and Monday, attending several events during the National Governors Association's winter meeting and staying Sunday night at the White House.
Perry and his wife, Anita, attended the White House state dinner that President Bush held for the governors Sunday and enjoyed Bush's hospitality in the residence. Perry's friendship with Bush dates to 1998, when Bush was re-elected Texas governor and Perry was elected lieutenant governor. Perry succeeded Bush when Bush was elected president in 2000, and Perry was elected in 2002.
The Texas governor did not meet with reporters during the trip.
Perry withdrew from the NGA last year, primarily for budgetary reasons. Spokeswoman Kathy Walt said that Perry was in Washington to attend Republican Governors Association meetings. All governors were invited to the state dinner, and Perry attended an RGA fund-raiser Monday night at the D.C. Convention Center, where the president spoke.
