1. Wow.
What really creeps me out about this is if they are that over-the-top paranoid about a clothes store how likely are they to allow fair elections? They think that the other side really is the enemy.

3. I don't think
they have any intention of allowing fair elections.

I want to read Black Box Voting
have read a lot about the issue,
but it is creepy to think
that perhaps the new voting machines are being rigged
even as we speak

42. He's just very angry b/c he is the only gubernatorial candidate to....
ever lose an election to a dead man - and in a very religious, conservative, sometimes RW (southwest) state. That's gotta hurt, so give him a break. So sorry, Asscroft.

7. They are doing this for your own protection.
There are free thinkers out there on the internet. You don't want free thinkers posting their ideas all over the place, do you? That could de-stabilize THE TRUTH.*

So shut up and sit down.

If you are good, video-rations may be increased by 2 bonus hours after the election.

12. Searching while others sleep.
I am not sure I read the log numbers correctly, but it looks like the first three groups have timestamps of 3 or 4 AM and then the last one looks like it is just after 8:00 AM.

So someone was looking for stuff during the night and then showed it to someone else when they got into work that morning.

they are gonna keep the project going.

Has serious criminal activity in America stopped? Why don't they go watch some boardrooms and accounting firms? Do we know who outed Plame?

But, hey, some subversive tee shirt screenprinter might be going over the line and guilty of exercising the Bill of Rights that the Patriot Act outlawed. Gotta round up all those dangerous screen printing demons!

15. This is to be expected.
Anyone remember COINTELPRO?

Realistically, it is part of their job to look at opposition sites to see if there is revolution being planned. Some of them, of course, take this part of their job much too seriously and see dissent as insurrection.

But, don't discount some employees hitting the sites for a giggle-- not all of them are fascists. Or even Republicans. Just people doing their jobs.

Think about some clerks or investigators sitting around the office bored out of their skins. Haven't found terrorist one in weeks. Months, even. Then the word goes around about some really cool and funny sites and everyone has to check them out.

Just like any other office. Not everyone loves the boss.

:hi: Homeland Security and DOJ

We absolutely do NOT want your bosses shot or otherwise removed by force or threat. Just fired by a nice shiny new President next year will do fine.

But we could see the tourists and contractors are abusing it.

For two years we planned our trip there from TN. When we arrived, they decided to do a "control burn". Right! The wind shifted and they smoked us all out. People were there from Europe. We had to leave the next day.

There is no such thing as a "controlled burn"..it always goes where it wants.

26. How do we check for spying on our computer?
Anyone know. We've been fearful of going to free web spy sites because, they might sell our e-mail address or go into our computer without our knowledge. Is there a safe one?

How can you do it on your own? Sometimes, they are hidden...very deep.

This is such a non-story...paranoid at the least...perhaps even a SCAM.

The headline should read...

"Government Employees Browse the Web While at Work"

This has become a delusion of Freeper proportions!!!

I think some clever tech person at this clothing company dreamed this up to take advantage of your average persons ignorance and get a lot of free publicity for their products...

Suckers!

31. Going after their political enemies.
Edited on Wed Feb-25-04 10:34 PM by mac2
We decided, this type of Hoover black list, political witch hunts, and hate was wrong.
We decided, going after a ethnic group was wrong.
We decided, that McCarthyism was wrong.
We decided, secret government was wrong. We passed the Freedom of Information Act.
We decided, nation building was wrong like that in S.America Iran Contra.
We decided, treating military poorly was wrong like those returning from Vietnam.
We decided, we would not allow another President to lie to us (about war).
We decided, we would never allow another slauter of innocent people like in Germany.
We decided that the end of WWII would end all wars because to have another with the technology we had could destroy us all.

It seems like so long ago that we had these values.

37. Your conclusion is unsound
You dont think gov investigators have a way to check sites without leaving a trail?

Also.. reading that log.. its just a few visits.. as you know it lists out each image that loads into the web page as a "separate hit" .. so you make it out worse than it looks. You'll not it lists each .gif etc as a separate hit. Its not like there were tons of hits.

I would relax if I were you.. if they wanted to check you out, I doubt some server log would find it.. The Gov has ways of checking.. and they could look your up in 3 seconds.. see your some dude in an apartment and move on.

Its probably some bored dhs worker who doesnt like bush. Gov employees are dem's too.

43. Yes govt employees are dems too!
If they were going to investigate a site, they sure wouldn't leave a trail that obvious.

The rank and file employees have been at the CIA, DOJ, etc. for many, many years and reflect a whole mix of backgrounds. I assume that given the number of the rank and file who are speaking out, a healthy percentage of them are outraged at the Bush administration for corrupting the basic principles those organizations are supposed to be following.
