One of the many great trend pollings here is "Gallup - electoral/approval. You go back in history and see how Poppy had a 37% approval when losing to Clinton and carter about 40% approval when he lost. Clinton had a 50% approval when he won.

8. Yeah, but look at Ronnie, 2.50 years into his term.
Or, about July 1983: he was at 45%, also. THAT is what worries me!!!!

I thought I remembered it that way. Some major Democrat -- maybe Tip O'Neill -- said at the time that he was sure Reagan wouldn't even run for reelection, given how low his popularity was.
