Pentagon WMDs: working with EBOLA right now!
Why worry about a couple of tons of Sarin? The Pentagon lab is cooking up a new Ebola weapon judging by THIS report!

http://legitgov.org/index.html#breaking_news

Scientist in isolation after Ebola exposure --A civilian scientist at Fort Detrick remained free of Ebola symptoms Thursday, eight days after accidentally grazing her hand with a needle while injecting mice infected with a 'weakened form' of the deadly virus, the Army said. The unidentified researcher is in a biosafety containment care suite known as "the slammer" that was last used for patient care in 1985, spokeswoman Caree Vander Linden said. The two-bed suite, rated BSL-4, the highest biosafety level, is at the U.S. Army Institute of Infectious Diseases at Fort Detrick, about 45 miles northwest of Washington.

WTF are these asshats thinking? Nukes not good enough?

10. I hope
A vaccine for that would likely to be difficult to make and dangerous to administer, judging from the disease.

And the things they will learn from making a vaccine for it...

13. So we should just give up?
"A vaccine for that would likely to be difficult to make and dangerous to administer, judging from the disease."

Ebola is a low probability, but high-impact virus - something we must prepare for.

14. cause the military is always interested in treating things
they're aims arent in the killing department. If it was defensive it would be handled by the CDC or another health department.

16. USAMRIID
"As the Department of Defense's lead laboratory for medical aspects of biological warfare defense, USAMRIID conducts research to develop vaccines, drugs and diagnostics for laboratory and field use. In addition to developing medical countermeasures, USAMRIID formulates strategies, information, procedures, and training programs for medical defense against biological threats."

5. Most likely looking for a vaccine.
Germ warfare is useless for the type of combat that the USA prefers. We like to go in and take over the other guy's territory, and germ warfare makes that difficult as the terrain can be contaminated and deadly to our own troops. However, the military does experiment trying to find vaccines for potential biowarfare weapons. That way they can protect our own troops if the weapons are used on them.

The Pentagon isn't crazy, no matter what much of the left wants to think.

6. That's some scary stuff
I've read about ebola, great book The Hot Zone by (I think) Richard Prescott or Preston, something like that it's been a while since I read it. Read other stuff as well, very scary virus. I can't imagine that an attenuated form of the virus would produce less tragic results. The polio vaccine is an attenuated form of the virus, maybe they are attempting a vaccine, I hope that is the intent but since it's the Pentegon experimenting, beware!

12. Funny, I just read that book today
Yes, it is called The Hot Zone. Very good book, and not one read while eating breakfast, lunch or dinner. I winced the entire time.

I don't believe they are stupid enough to try to create anything other than a vaccine. The virus mutates wildly and unpredicatably.

8. They work with every single infectious disease known to man...
...and have probably invented more infectious diseases than actually appear in nature.

Yes, they're probably working on vaccines, but their number one priority is to produce highly effective bio-weapons.

9. Doubtful that they are trying to produce bioweapons.
Bioweapons are just too hard to control. Military people don't like them.

11. Still...
These ARE the same guys who came up with the neutron bomb, for one.

For two, Rummy and Wolfy are running the show. Who is to say that is for use against foreign populations?

18. Oh, please...don't hand me that stuff. In light of all of the crap...
...we've observed over the last three plus years, I find the idea that they're not developing bioweapons to be totally ludicrous.

These are the same guys that are developing smaller nuclear warheads and have publicly admitted to adopting a preemptive strike philpsophy. These are the same guys that attacked a country after fabricating the reasons for doing so.

Not working on bioweapons? Sure...whatever you say.

17. Big Whoop
Um, they've only been doing lethal infectious agent research at Ft. Detrick for the past 60 years or so. Good or bad, it's nothing new, and Ft. Detrick has been working with Ebola for some time now.

19. Calm down, they are looking for an antidote...
Ft Detrick is the Army's infectious disease laboratory, roughly equivalent to the military version of the CDC. I recommend you read the book called "The Hot Zone", which is about how deadly Ebola is, and how a monkey infected with Ebola almost escaped from the Ft Detrick labs a few years back, and could have possibly started an outbreak of Ebola in the U.S. It's a very good read.
