Who isn't a registered Democrat?
Is there anyone here who isn't a registered Democrat?

I've remained a registered indepedent b/c I like to have the option of voting in the Republican primary if I ever feel the need to.

7. Neither does mine.
In WA, we don't have party registration. When I was registered in LA and then TX, I was registered as a Dem.

3. I am a registered Democrat
Unlike you in NC, we have closed primaries, so to vote in the Republican primary i would have to be a Republican. I know that I'm not going to vote for a Republican anyways, so I like being able to pick my dem candidate in the primaries for town board, supervisor, county executive, etc, and of course federal and state level races too.

4. NC independent here
Switched to unaffilated two years ago because state dems pissed me off on environmental and labor issues, and because congressional dems have become too tied to corporate money. Hanging around though with hope things will change.

28. I am also a
NC unaffiliated voter. For the same reason. Occasionally I do vote in the Republican primary for the sole purpose of trying to throw the nomination of the Repuke party to the one I see as the weaker candidate for the Dem to run against.

A long time ago as an effort to bump statistics and shake up the Dems. I've never voted anything but Democratic though. I think the Reform party is now defunct so maybe I'm an independent. I'll probably re-register this year as a Democrat.

Does someone have a link that lists the states w/ open primaries, as opposed to closed?

I'm not a registered anything, although I almost always vote leftist. The only exception was during the last election. I voted against a Democrat for judge here locally. Only because he's a piece of shit that I caught hitting on my then-girlfriend at a wedding reception.

I am a Dutch/Canadian dual citizen watching this board and hoping that the 'New' left will swing back in the US, so Canada does not get sucked down the vortex social irresponsibility that America has chosen (or been forced into, depending on one's views of the last election). Europe seems to be holding on.

No... Bloody foreigner - that's me - to use a Britishism.

21. last registered as republican in 1980
... ain't voted since.

I gotta travel down south to register at the US embassy in edinburgh... just its a 5.5 hour trip i'll get to soon enough...

Is there an advantage in voting in the republican primary against bush?... or would it be better to vote for kucinich as a show of futile hope for a democratic nomination.... somehow, i'm still not inspired that voting counts for shit... as everyone will presume my vote to mean an endorsement of the criminal governmetn in washington, when my real vote is NON! The government should be fired, all senate, house, suprreme court and executive... the lot of them should be tried on charges of treason against the constitution... in a new court formed at a new constitutional convention.

... RANT!! woof!.

Edited on Fri Aug-01-03 01:00 PM by Jersey Devil
You CAN register as an "Independent" but most people register either as Democratic, Republican or not at all, in which case they are listed as "undeclared." You do not have to declare yourself when you register to vote. However, if you do register with a party affiliation you cannot vote in the other party's primary. Also, if you are undeclared and then vote in a primary it changes your registration to that of the party whose primary you voted in. It is very confusing to put it mildly.

PS - I have always been a registered Dem since voting in the Democratic Presidential Primary when I turned 21 (which was the voting age back then).

answered a question different than what was asked.

Main point was I don't think one 'registers' in Indiana - or even if one does it doesn't matter in the primaries. At the polls one requests either the democratic or republican ballot - can only vote in one - but can vote in dem. primary one year and repub the next without filing any official paperwork to change party registration.

In NY, we have "closed primaries". You can only vote in a primary for the party you are registered with. Independents don't get to vote in primaries.

Republican so I could vote against Bush in the primaries in 2000. I coldn't stand him back then either. It's been interesting getting all the GOP propoganda. Kind of considered myself a "Stealth Democrat."

But I will be switching back to Democrat for the primaries and will remain so probably forever.
