So * has time to go to NASCAR but none for funerals of soldiers?
I suppose there's only ONE NASCAR event like this every year.

And after all, there's hundreds and hundreds of combat veteran funerals, not to mention the thousands of wounded to visit, so he just couldn't possibly spend any time at all at funerals of dead heros.

1. anyone notice that the winner
Dale Earnhardt Jr, did not even mention *s name when asked what he liked the most about the race,, the repubs expected Dale to say , why President Bush starting the race was the hi-lite of the race, but not one word, I don't think the Nascar dads love * as much as Rove thinks they do.

2. I think his support is a mile wide and one person thin
A small group of people can make a lot of noise, but they don't have the votes and they know it. You know Bush wouldn't have bothered to go to NASCAR if he was flush with voter approval. And I suspect this open public "hero worship" is turning a lot of people off.

3. Dead soldiers can't vote
but their families can. Great observation, I think I'll call the local rag's bitch column later and plant that seed there, thanks.

6. I heard that a fair number of people in the crowd
were booing him. Of course, NPR reported this morning that he got a hero's welcome. Sounds like it was really an anti-hero's welcome?

BTW: When W's plane came in, did it just go into the airport or did actually go around the stadium? A curious mind would like to know.
Thanks.

10. pfft *snort* That's a stretch
Does it endanger thousands of people every time it lands?

If we're going to complain, at least let's be reasonable about it.

12. Did AF1 violate the FARs when they buzzed the track?
How close was AF1 to the speedway? According to FAR Part 91 Sec. 91.119 - Minimum safe altitudes: General.

Except when necessary for takeoff or landing, no person may operate an aircraft below the following altitudes:

(a) Anywhere. An altitude allowing, if a power unit fails, an emergency landing without undue hazard to persons or property on the surface.

(b) Over congested areas. Over any congested area of a city, town, or settlement, or over any open air assembly of persons, an altitude of 1,000 feet above the highest obstacle within a horizontal radius of 2,000 feet of the aircraft.

18. Are you judging that from the one picture (in post #7)?
Edited on Mon Feb-16-04 11:33 AM by alg0912
I saw footage yesterday on CNN that made it appear that AF1 made a low pass directly over the track.

I understand your defense of aviators (the pilots of AF1, not the Shrub) as I'm an aviator also. But what I saw looked quite foolhardy on the part of the crew of AF1.

I saw that footage, it looked well off to the side of the track to me.

14. giant tanks of flammable jet fuel, oxidizers, flammable and combustible
materials hanging over a large number of innocent people....this pResidential stunt was totally unneccessary...there is a risk anytime a jet plane flies...the pResident should not have exposed these people to these high risks without their permission...in addition, the shrub blew out toxic chemicals from the AF1 exhaust all over the unsuspecting people, some of whom may have had respiratory diseases already or children with asthma, or grandpas with emphasema...it is RUDE and disgusting....

remember the jet that had a cargo shift of oxidizing chemicals (also known as the oxygen-generators above your seat on every plane)...that small shift created an oxidizing explosion, ripped out a hole and crashed the plane into a swamp in Florida....

remember the jet that encountered some 'wind-shear' in Colorado Springs...crashed into a city park, exploding and killing everyone on board...

remember the jet, that the tail broke into pieces, shattering all over New York, a few months after 9/11....it killed a lot of people...

there are many more instances of danger from aircraft...these risks are TOO high for the pResident to endanger others....

17. toxins that come out of ONE jet plane GREATLY exceeds any pollution
Edited on Mon Feb-16-04 11:31 AM by amen1234

caused by 50 cars on a track....a little knowledge of atmospheric chemistry could help you understand reality....

there is also a 'synergistic' effect...the effect of another BIG load of additional toxins....your argument is like saying that we should just accept bush*'s environmental degradation, because we already have some environmental degradation...so why not just have MORE MORE MORE....???

why are you so surprised that people with disabilities might be at a race track? bush*'s health policies haven't yet KILLED everyone with disabilities...so you will still see them for a while, until shrub's "final solution for those with disabilities" is completed....then you won't see them anymore...

21. dude, you're really stretching
Why don't we close all most of LA and Long Island if aircraft are that dangerous when taking off.

I never showed any surprise at people with disabilities showing up at a race, I was merely pointing out how farcical that argument was.

Go ahead, drop the Hitler bomb, you're long overdue. I see the "final solution", the extermination of the weak, but nothing logical about flying a plane near a crowd. Nope, that never happens, ever. :eyes:

13. LOL....great news coverage.....
-snips-

"I wasn't to sure about the whole war in Iraq thing until now" stated Billy Franks, an auto-mechanic in Mesquite Texas. "I was a big fan of Dale and admired what he brought to the NASCAR circuit." Mr. Franks wiped away tears after declining to comment further.

Shortly after the President's startling announcement, support for military action in Iraq in Kentucky, Alabama, Mississippi and Tennessee increased by 25% to 97% over all. Several other semi-literate states, which comprise of the majority of NASCAR television viewers, had increases in support ranging from 5% to 15%.

19. Wasn't there a fundraising event in town too?
I heard this (in passing) when the news was talking about him being at the event. It caught my attention because it seems like EVERY FUCKING time Bush shows up for another public display of affection, it's attached to a pickpocket picnic.

20. Photo-Op
this was a clear and plain op......I know but the RNC had voter registration set up....Did the DNC?

RACING FOR REPUBLICANS: For the first time ever, the Republican National Committee will register voters during the weekend of the Daytona 500.

RNC volunteers will be accompanied by a "Race to Victory" motor home designed to energize voters and provide fans a convenient opportunity to register to vote.

NASCAR driver Rusty Wallace planned to help register voters Saturday, and U.S. Rep. Tom Feeney, R-Fla., will assist on race day.
