1. His showing up uninvited at event is really starting to grate on people's
nerves. Like the MLK think. It's patently transparent that he'll stoop to any depths to get a little PR. The problem is that if he ever borrowed the balls to show up at a military funeral it would be 50-50 as to whether he'd make it out of there without getting a good ass kicking.

3. You forget ...

That the President showing up ANYWHERE requires super-extra security. They probably had to cordon off areas where the good ole boys like to party.

Nope, I think they will be pissed. If he drove the pace-car, that would be different ;-) Otherwise, he's just a poser.

BTW, I remember the Indy 500 in 1990. Dan and Marilyn Quayle were sporting matching pink jackets. It was gross and VERY tacky. Stormin Normin DID get a good ovation though.

4. Ruined it for me
I was really looking forward to a relaxing, exciting afternoon watching these guys make cars do things that, well, cars just can't do. That smirk was the first thing I saw when I turned it on, and havig to watch him say "...starcher ingines" somehow ruined the whole spectacle. Still had fun watching with my boys, but it just wasn't the same.

5. And...Guess Who Paid For Jaunt?
The White House described Bush's overnight trip to Florida as non-political, meaning that taxpayers -- not Bush's reelection campaign -- will pick up the tab. But the election-year agenda was clear from the magnificent presidential photo shots and the red, white and blue touring bus that the Republican National Committee deployed at the track for a big voter registration drive.

7. damn right it did & we had better understand what bush's plan is
he intends to appear in places that represent average americans and the things they/we find important to our value systems.

in this way, he will attach himself to the values of the places and people he visits.

one should not wonder why people who have nothing in economic common with bush vote for him. he has been able to project that he shares the values other people do, even when he is stabbing them in the back.

it is a brilliant manipulation of image and imagery, make no mistake about it.

this trip to daytona is prima fascia evidence of what bush intends to do in the campaign. he will try to appeal to the common man by appearing in public with them and mouthing utterances that imply that what "the people " stand for and value is what he stands for and values.

gentlemen, start your syllogisms!

8. Don't you realize?????
When GW goes to any event, it disrupts EVERYTHING!

I don't know what happened at the race today. I didn't watch! Can't bear to watch this idiot!

Roads have to be blocked, airports shut down (Fed. Law when Airforce ! is preparing to or flying).

People get pissed!

Showing up at things like NASCAR events could be more damaging than not.

13. in a month traffic jams are memories, but bush-nascar bush-nascar
bush-nascar

will remain imprinted on the minds of the american people.

and that is the danger of the association.

you are thinking local, the event for bush was merely to place himself in the public eye alongside nascar, not only for those at daytona, but more widely, throughout the country and for more than this weekend.

now you will see a greater presence at future nascar events of gop booths and campaign literature for bush. count on it, because it is already in progress.

when vp al gore took his kids to a grateful dead show, there was also great security, but all that dead heads everywhere thought was "cool, the vice president is a deadhead too."

same goes for nascar fans.

17. First of all, NASCAR is not a sport.
The "Left Turn Circuit" is soooooooo boring. If it was a sport, high schools would have it. It is one big advertisement prop, and a ridiculous one at that.

18. Nascar Nincompoop
Edited on Mon Feb-16-04 01:39 AM by progressivebebe
This was so sickeningly cheesy and pathetic as only the repugnant spin machine can be. Right up there with the flight suit. I didn't watch it. But I saw a recap of it on the local news and it was more than enough. I saw how he shamelessly flew air force one low to the racetrack to pack that extra punch. LOL

Really, I'm waiting for fireworks to shoot out of his ass next! ughhhh. Shameless. I don't think it worked AT ALL. Ultimately, it's like what James Carville said: It's the economy stupid! and it's about healthcare. Nascar is a pathetic attempt at diversion from what REALLY matters in this election.
