Where have all the Republicans gone?
Edited on Sun Feb-15-04 07:11 PM by neoteric lefty
the Bush Republicans:

- don't care about deficit spending,

- don't care about the privacy of all Americans (Patriot Act),

- prefer unilateral nation building over multilateral support (war in Iraq),

- don't want to protect states' rights (proposed constitutional ban on gay marriage),

and so on and so forth. I know conservatives and the Republican party is not the party of conservatives any more. They are the party of fundamentalist Christians, free-market economists, and radical imperialists. If I were a traditional conservative, I would be MAD AS HELL about what the Bush Administration has done to the Republican party. I respect a lot of conservatives, I do not respect many Republicans.

1. They do what Republicans do
They sold out. They follow the money. They do whatever it takes to make them rich and keep their kind in power.

2. misplaced loyalty
republicans are loyal, quite literally, to a fault.

loyalty in general is admirable, and republicans do it far, far better than democrats do.

but the bush league has abused that loyalty by hijacking the party, and demanding loyalty to the party despite the fact that the party now is promoting much of what it railed against for years.

the true conservative would be far more comfortable in today's democratic party.

6. The rank and file are going over to the Libertarian party
The people criticizing Shrub's big spending, big government are being kicked off by JimR and going over to Libertarian sites. The Shrub bashing at Liberty Post is as bad as it is here. They will never vote Democratic but are saying they will either vote Libertarian or stay home if Bush does not mend his ways.
