5. We have none
"30 million would fund 1000 Florida teachers for 1 school year!"

That would be nice but unfortunately the powers that be in Florida don't give a shit about the teachers. They're more interested in privatizing the education system.

You're education has been brought to you by AT&T ©. :-)

6. Huh
Teachers only earn $30k in Florida? Actually more like $22.5k since you have to take into account benefits and such. (Multiplying employees by 1.33 is good shorthand to calculate all of the other costs.) So what do teachers REALLY earn on average in Florida?

7. Not to pick nits, but
There's no way you could pay 1,000 teachers in Florida on $ 30 million.

Don't blow your point with bad arithmetic.

Edited on Fri Aug-01-03 06:35 AM by trumad
isn't 30 mill divided by 1000 = 30,000 ? If so..that's the average salary for a Florida School teacher.

On Edit: I just googled for the average teacher salary in FL... It's 33 thou... So I was off a couple of Bucks...BUT you get the point!

It's about 667 doing real business math. Still a lot. And, btw, I love the source. Who would have thought they'd have this?

11. 667 teachers is a bunch in FL
They laid off two excellent teachers last year in my Kid's elementary school because of Budget cuts. AND it was mid-year and it created all kinds of havoc for the Kids who were in thoses classes. They all were relocated to other classes hence making the other classes bigger in size. I remember my kids coming home telling me they got a couple of new kids in their class....when I asked where they were from, they said, Down the hall. Funny but not funny.

SO...my point is.... If we weren't paying 30 mill for bullshit bounties, then those great teachers might still have a job ...

12. But to pay that teacher $ 33,000
it probably costs the school district over $ 40,000 when they have to kick in half the teacher retirement money, half the medicare premiunm, probably something forhealth insurance, and whatever other benefits the teacher gets.

But yes, I still get the point.

10. Heck, it's the billion a week we are spending
To 'rebuild' Iraq that pisses me off even more.

Imagine what we could do with a billion a week in this country. And to make matters even worse we are going to bankrupt the US economy, in order to rebuild what we destroyed, during our Shock and Awe photo op.
