Same old tired Republican mantra
Not making the tax cuts permanent means the Democrats are raising your taxes. Did you hear me? Raising your taxes! Once again? Raising your taxes! They want to raise your taxes!

His voice rising to a shout, President Bush (news - web sites) lashed out at Democratic rivals who want to roll back his tax cuts as he defended his economic priorities Monday in a presidential primary state where his record has been harshly criticized.

"There are some in Washington that are going to say, 'Let's not make the tax cuts permanent.' That means he's going to raise your taxes," Bush said at a factory. "When you hear people say, 'We're not going to make this permanent,' that means tax increase."

Desperation time, folks. Next week, we'll hear about Willie Horton and "learn" about how liberal the Democratic frontrunners are.

Good to see Bush* and his fellow Republicans have some new, fresh, innovative ideas to roll out on the campaign trail. </sarcasm>

1. Raising taxes in a time of WAR is patriotic!
Look at the record! Even Abe did it!

4. The raising taxes threat sounds very hollow
Normally I would cringe when I heard something like that knowing the raising taxes threat often gets traction against Democrats.

For some reason this year it sounds very hollow coming from a "president" that has been discredited so much in the last month. It sounds like the ravings of someone desperate.

5. Would That The Voters See
Would that the voters see that it's not just George UU Bush and his "no new taxes" pledge that would plunge the federal government into permanent penury during increasingly troubled times, but the little GOP stooges in the House of Representatives and the US Senate as well. It's not just George Deucey-U Bush who needs to be thrown out of office, but the Republican incumbents in the legislative branch as well.

8. Agree - this sounds like a desperation move
from a president* that has nothing else to run on. The deficit and the continued expansion of government has been getting traction, and most people are reasonable enough to know that we have to pay for it somehow. Plus, the "lower taxes means more revenue to the federal government because the economy grows faster" doesn't make sense to most people.

I also think its quite funny that Bush* says,

"They're going to raise the taxes and increase the size of the federal government, which would be bad for the United States economy."

Who has raised the size of the Federal government, George?

IMO, we have an easy answer to this - we either advocate for a leaner Federal government (a la WJC) or we make the argument that if you want more government, you have to pay for it (justifying rolling back some of the Bush* tax cut).

6. I'll Bet You a Nickel...
...that somebody in roveland will start to imply that JK & Theresa were complicit in the death of her first husband, the late Sen. John Heinz, (R-PA), one of the last of the honorable, decent republicans (DEFINITELY better than lil rickey santorum and little nion arlen spector who represent PA now).

It would be very typical of rove to have someone far enough down the line to establish some deniability make an accusation like this to novak, coulter, hannity, drudge and so on, and so on, and so on,...

10. Hadn't thought of that
Scary stuff - I could see that happening. Afterall, Hillary killed Vince Foster. At least that's what Rush says.

13. Teresa Heinz has said she will reach into her deep pockets
and fight back in the media if she is personally attacked. I forget the number, but she has vast, probably untold kazillions of dollars.

7. Since I'm not anywhere near the top 1%
my taxes won't be raised. And even if you took away the handsome three bucks a week I get extra because of tax cuts, I wouldn't mind if it kept our country solvent.

9. I said that to my RW father-in-law the other day
I told him that actually I don't mind paying taxes - that I would volunteer to give up my tax cut to ensure that necessary government services were paid for (not that I have even really seen much of a tax cut, mind you). He thought I was crazy, and couldn't understand why anyone would want to give the government "your money." He kept saying, "that's the problem with liberals - they want to take our money."

This from a guy who has a $500,000 house and a $2 million retirement nest-egg - "I got mine, F**K YOU!"

11. What he really means is...
Let's try to make this a little more honest shall we....

"There are some in Washington that are going to say, 'Let's not make the tax cuts permanent.' That means he's going to raise *MY* taxes," Bush said at a factory. "When you hear people say, 'We're not going to make this permanent,' that means tax increase *FOR ME*."

Can't have it - won't do at all - not good for the economy - no sir.

12. The Rich Make Money, Don't Spend It...Get It???
After nearly 30 years of hard work, I made it to the coveted 6 figure level...a goal of mine for years, and one that I never thought I'd reach. It was finally enough to pay all the bills and put a couple of bucks away. I didn't feel rich, but compared to my many friends who were't as fortune, it looked hugh. But not to those who earned that more or more. I was as much a piker now as I was then.

If there's one thread I've noticed in all the wealthy people I've been associated with, it's their obsession with making and not spending money. The axiom is "the ones who have it, know how to keep it". It's net worth, post-tax earnings...those are what matter and status is attained as one grows bigger in both earnings and assets. There's not room for "trickle down" here. Never has, never will.

This dangerous doofus has all the answers, but none of the solutions. I've heard his corporate-sponsored tripe for years and it's all hypotheticals that somehow wealth in the upper 5 or 1 percent means prosperity for all. There were those who once believed in that type of a system...it was called Serfdom.

Norquist can talk about cutting "waste" (and I'm all for shrinking a lot of useless government pork barrel subsidies and redundant agencies) but he doesn't explain either what will take their place (people are just gonna walk away from SSI or Medicare and not wonder what they still have coming???) or what function a federal government really has. All he does is shill for the robber barons who take care of him, and his ugly ties, nicely.

14. * SHOUTED? Where's the media? Play it over and over and over!!!
As we've all learned from the example made of Dr. Dean, shouting just isn't presidential behavior.

Obviously, * is a mad dog. He's insane. Fire the bastard.

15. Just ask "What would the Adults do?"
This an adult situation where there is no free ride. If you don't support your country with finances then you don't support your country period. Taxes are the foundation of our freedom and they need to be kept intact. It is the "Adult" and the "Christian" thing for all of us that love America to do. Grow Up America. There ain't no free ride no matter what those "Con Artists" tell you.

16. the winger in my office actually
had the decency to get embarrassed and try to backpedal after issuing this telling statement:

"What I don't want to see happen is that a Democratic president starts giving away my tax dollars to social programs. I mean, I don't get why people think that in the case of health care and education everything should be equal."

this is a guy who is a doctor's son and attended private school. he thinks that everyone who had advantages in life earned them. what a putz. he lost what last bit of respect i ever for him with that one.

oh, how he backpedaled was, after i called him on that, he said well yes, public education needs to be kept solvent (i doubt he really believes that) and then he said that universal health care might mean that the gov starts paying out to support the special interest insurance industry, when first changes need to be made in the whole system. that much i agreed with.
