And how is its date determined each election year? Is it always the first Tuesday of February?

1. No, it's the "mini-tuesday".
Super-tuesday is March 2nd, which includes a huge number of states, including California and New York. It is followed by the Southern Tuesday, one the 9th(?)

4. Each state party does its own thing,
and there has been something of a race to make them earlier. It would be good to put the whole rigamarole off until about June, but regulation of states and political parties isn't possible in this country.

5. Feb. 3
is not Super Tuesday, but my local radio station keeps calling it that. I hope someone sets them straight. Aren't the media supposed to know at least a little about what they are reporting on? Who writes the copy for these guys?

6. Leader status
People keep calling Kerry the front-runner. But thats after only TWO of 48 states (plus DC and Puerto Rico ;-))

Feb 3 will decide if there is a front-runner. It will determine who the viable candidates are?
