Poll question: Should the Fox NetworkNews Corp. be dismantled?
If we regain power, should Antitrust laws be used against News Corp., the owner of the Fox Network, to dismantle it?

3. Actually I don't think so...Just call it what it IS
RNC-TV..

Rightwingers should be able to go to a station that espoused their philospohy, and there is nothing wrong with that, but CALL IT WHAT IT IS.. AND have an equally zealous station/network/empire so that people with opposite views have a place to caqll home too..

and in the "mushy middle"..... plain old news like we used to have.. no spin..just what happened, when it happened, who did it..leave the WHY out..

4. Which state are they incorporated in? New York?
When were they legally chartered? Perhaps we need a statute of limitations on corporate charters.

First let's just revoke their license to broadcast on our airwaves, perhaps they can keep a cable show. I'm trying to be moderate here. I don't want to scare away all the moderate centrists who really support the News Corporation. Murdoch of course is a beloved figure to so many swing voters. :eyes:

5. Yes under the Sherman and/or Clayton and/or Robinson-Patman Acts
same goes for the other networks, most US oil companies, Microsoft and most US health insurance companies.

Time for a return to competition. Bona fide capitalism is being replaced by fake capitalism in the name of free markets. Adam Smith could tell you in a New York minute that there are not enough "suppliers" in most industries for capitalism to function any longer. He understood and wrote about this problem in the 1770s. Time for progressives to start championing this guy again (instead of Marx).

7. I'm going to be unpopular, but no.
We have that first amendment protection of freedom of the press. The First Amendment says nothing that a news organization cannot be full of crap, just that they have the freedom to exist, full of crap or not.

I'm all for the breakup of NewsCorp, deporting Rupert Murdoch, and be given back our great film studio, but if FauxNews is to be dismantled, it would have to be done by Fox themselves.

8. re-introduce the fairness doctrine
and enforce it

Fox (Pravda) may very well collapse under its own inability to figure out what fair and balanced actually is.

Plus they'd have to unload at least half of the dim bulbs who work for them. Neo-cons would go back to the fringe where they belong.

9. I'll say no
but I do think Faux, and the other cable news networks, should be compelled to have an ombudsman... and a full time and active one.

11. It should just be discredited
and fail financially if and when other networks become real, non Republican propaganda again.

12. There are just too many examples of Fox News flat out lying.
Edited on Sat Jan-31-04 02:17 PM by Cat Atomic
They should certainly be dismantled, or at the very least, required to run a disclaimer that they are NOT a news organization, and that their stories are not necessarily true.

I think you could make an argument that Fox News is a danger to America. When you've got a majority of people supporting an invasion based on misperceptions, that's dangerous. To paraphrase Dubya himself, "we don't need a permission slip to defend our country".

It's BS,its a lie and they shouldn't be able to use that monikor without it being true.
