Should I cancel my Mastercard because of CBS?
I think I should because they're advertising during the Super Bowl. But I have to get another credit card as "backup" to my Discover Card, then, because not everyone takes Discover. I used to like Working Assets but they're now run by MBNA, an evil predatory company that gives money hand over fist to Repukes and Repuke causes.

Are there any decent credit cards???????????

1. Good question.
I don't know the answer, but could you stop use of the card or reduce use of your card and let them know why? Switch to cash and tell them you are encouraging others to do the same?

3. Thanks
I signed it but I'm still gonna cancel MC if I can find a decent replacement.

4. Check out a Mother Jones magazine--they have a lot of
offers for cards that give a portion of what you spend to progressive causes; it's better than nothing.

6. Don't get American Express...
... because MBNA just took them over.

Some banks issue their own cards that work as debit cards as well as credit cards. If you just don't like carrying cash, these are a good idea, because they work like a check but you don't need to go through the ID hassles. Plus, they allow you to charge but the limit is not so high that you are tempted to spend more than you should, and they draw $10. or so from your checking account automatically at the end of the month so you don't even need to worry about sending in a bigger payment unless you want to avoid interest (which you probably do).

7. read the fine print on debit type cards
If you make purchases over the internet and someone 'steals' your number, you are liable for a lot more than with a traditional credit card. Traditional credit cards limit your amount of liability, usually the first $50 is your responsibility. The rest is the credit card company's responsibilty. Which is why they are so invested in secure transactions. Debit cards do not have the same protection. They are linked to your checking account and someone could potentially emtpy your account.

5. What do you mean by decent credit cards?
Edited on Sat Jan-31-04 10:11 AM by fleetus
If you want a widely accepted card that's not MC try Visa.

If you want free stuff but less acceptance, try American Express.

(on edit)

And if you want a magazine that is selective about their advertisers, I agree with Mother Jones. They know their audience, that is for sure.

8. We ditched cards when we went bankrupt
and never looked back.

If you gotta have one, you can do a VISA checkcard.
