Mike Bloomberg Plans Snub-ya to Dub-ya
When President Bush accepts the Republican nomination at Madison Square Garden on Sept. 2, one prominent New York Republican isn't likely to be standing with him - Mayor Bloomberg.

The mayor says he's "thrilled" to be giving the welcoming speech for the Republican convention, but added that GOP revelers shouldn't expect to see much of him at the convention after his official greeting.

When warned by a caller on the "Brian Lehrer Show" that many Democratic voters "will be angry with him if he endorses Bush at the podium," Bloomberg hinted that he won't even be in the building for much of the four-day event.

"I'm told the mayors traditionally give a welcome speech and I would be thrilled to do that," Bloomberg said. "After that, I'm not a particularly political guy."

1. hahahaha... wouldn't be the first time a NY mayor
snubbed someone who could be labelled a state terrorist.

...as a New Yorker who will be attending, shall we say, "concurrent gatherings" in the vicinity. "Some" (to borrow from *) criticize Clark for only recently becoming a Democrat, but Bloomberg only became a Republican in order to run for Mayor. The Democratic party here is pretty well established, so it is hard for outsiders to break into mayoral politics within the party. I'm fairly ambivalent about the guy as Mayor.

Besides, Bloomberg is pissed as hell at the fact that all the 9-11 help we were promised has not been delivered.

New Yorkers overwhelmingly voted against Bush in the 2000 selection. Their holding the convention here is a mighty cynical slap in the face and will end up just inconveniencing us and costing us money.

5. I'll be there to protest.
I'd also like to add that Bush has a deep hatred for New England, especially NYC, because these were the places that protested the gov't that Poppy was involved in. He hated living in Boston, and if it weren't for 9-11, he'd probably have chosen Honolulu for the convention. I have a strange feeling that GW and John Rocker would have a lot of common ground on the whole NYC thing....

4. Wow, it's the first time he's
done something I am not opposed to. Maybe there is hope after all. I am pretty sick of his paternalistic nanny laws, as are most other New Yorkers.
