Bush: "There's excitement in our economy!"
Sound bite from MSNBC a few moments ago from Bush:

"The economy is growing! People are finding work! There's EXCITEMENT in our economy!"

He was looking pretty frantic while mouthing these words.

Is it possible to combine "arrogance" and "whining," or are they mutually exclusive? I'm having a hard time labeling this one.

Is it exciting to read the newspapers everyday and see another plant closing, thousands of layoffs, job loss outnumbering job creation? He is such a fool.

the lay-offs and plant closing just keeps going on and on. job growth? it`s called replacement..hiring workers for those who have retired ,fired , quit or they have a job at the expensive of someone else-business moved. there`s no increase of production above the pre bush years and no new factories being built that will hire hundreds of people. i hope little georgie was happy when condi told him the good news

Another MSNBC quote, a few moments ago, from Tom Brokaw in reference to tonight's Dem candidate debate. He mentioned the 50,000 textile jobs lost in S.C. as simply the tip of the iceberg.

People are pissed off, people are unemployed, people are feeling betrayed people are excited about a Air Force One making a one-way trip to Crawford.

23. Lots of joy in Tennessee, too
Teaser for Lou Dobbs tonight on CNN:

http://www.cnn.com/CNN/Programs/lou.dobbs.tonight/

"Join us for our series of special reports, "Exporting America." We take a look at a rural Appalachian community with a population of 7,000 people. This small Tennessee town has a 15.5 percent jobless rate, and has been struggling since OshKosh started shipping apparel jobs to Mexico and Honduras in the mid 1990s. The plant supported 1,600 jobs, and now less than 20 people work there. We have the story."

You might want to e-mail your Bristow story and comments to Dobbs:
http://www.cnn.com/feedback/forms/form5.html?9

He's become a real whistle-blower for this kind of crap. More people need to know about the lives that are being destroyed.

He stimulated the New Hampshire economy! Everywhere he goes, stimulation follows. I hate to admit it, but I'm kind of stimulated just by typing this.

MORE GOOD NEWS:

"Medicare and Deficit Estimates Revised Upward"

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,109869,00.html

A special exciting quote from the article:

"President Bush's 2005 budget proposal estimates that his Medicare bill will cost one-third more than the $400 billion the White House promised, and predicts the largest deficit ever in dollar terms, congressional aides said Thursday."

and:

" The president now estimates that the just-enacted prescription-drug program and Medicare overhaul will cost about $540 billion, and that this year's budget deficit will be about $520 billion, congressional sources told The Associated Press.

That deficit figure would easily surpass the $375 billion shortfall of last year. The new estimates come as Bush braces for a difficult election-season fight with Congress over his spending, which has angered budget watchdogs, including some conservatives."

33. There's excitement, alright. But it's not the kind he thinks it is.
Judging from what I'm reading, and what I'm getting from posts here that reflect what the 83-year-old boyfriend of my 87-year-old mom, there is change in the air. There is excitement being generated by the Democrats as we slug our way through primary season. There's excitement in the air about some truly viable alternatives to bush. There's excitement in the air among some of us who actually are starting to see indications that, after a very long drought, there are rain clouds gathering overhead.

I think that may actually be what the excitement is. There's more dirt coming out, more than the media is being forced to deal with, from the AWOL controversy to David Kay and the WMD charade to the so-so SOTU to Paul O'Neill's broadsides. All the pounding bush is taking from every telecast of every stump/acceptance/cheer the faithful speech out of the mouths of every Democrat is too much for people to ignore anymore. The campaign season means that the Democrats ARE getting their messages out because that's considered the news that now has to be covered. Mrs. Mariani and her lawyer are going on Joe Scarborough of all people, and he's listening and not interrupting and she's getting her message out. CSPAN is covering all kinds of stuff. It's unavoidable. So people can begin to hear OUR side, and see the cheering and the signs and the crowds and the energy and the blanket hostility to bush - with reasons attached. They're hearing about record turnouts and anger and getting some reasons for that. There is a snowball effect that has begun. If it keeps up, and gathers more momentum, it will roll bush right out of the White House.

There's excitement building out there, george. But it sure as hell isn't about anything good that YOU'VE done. It's about the increasing plausibility that you're on your way out.

This, from someone else's earlier post, really sticks in my mind (and my heart), somehow. WELL worth noting:

From Andrew Sullivan’s website

Wednesday, January 28th, 2004

BUSH IS IN DEEP TROUBLE: I'd say something else. The huge turn-out in New Hampshire; the electability factor for Kerry; the passion of the Dean people: all this shows how thoroughly energized the Democrats are to win back the White House. Bush is in the Rove-Cheney cocoon right now. From the SOTU, it looks like he's going to run on 9/11. Bad, backward-looking idea. His coalition is fracturing; his reach out to Hispanics seems to have hurt him more with the base than won him new votes; his spending has independents deeply concerned; Iraq is still a wild card; prescription drugs pandering hasn't swayed any seniors; the religious right wants him to attack gay couples in the Constitution - which will lose him the center. More worrying: I'm not sure he even knows he's in trouble.

49. Bush: "I'm upbeat and I've got reason to be"
More on today's field trip to New Hampshire on CNN:

http://www.cnn.com/2004/ALLPOLITICS/01/29/elec04.prez.bush.dems/index.html

A couple of quick quotes:

"Economic numbers on housing and business investment were encouraging, he said. "The American people tell me they're feeling pretty good."

and some news that we've all been looking forward to on Iraq:

"I'm absolutely convinced it was the right thing to do, and I look forward to explaining it clearly to the American people," Bush said.

CNN did not mention if the clear explanation would involve mimes, sock puppets, or semaphore signals.

There is also no truth to the rumor that Bush will dance on the roof of an SUV parked outside of the White House prior to his clear explanation.
