Barely coherent, and in near blind panic, it strikes me.
Look at SOTU, they have not had a serious challenge to the most
damaging facts against them.

They are having to weigh a lot of alternatives that involve
someone, or many taking one for the team. And some teams are worth more than others, when it comes to laying your neck on a block of wood wearing a turkey suit and nervously chanting 'gobble, gobble.'

It really only takes one insider to give the one fingered salute, doesn't it?

Visualize Donald, Condi, Richard, Colin, Dick, Wolfy, John, and Karl talking that one over...

19. If the SOTU had a tone, it was defensive, I don't care what you think.
I will never forget the startled surprise dimwit had when the mention of the Patriot Act sundowning in 2005 brought wild applause. He is completely clueless about what people really think of him and his dim-
wit policies.

6. How about indifference?
I honestly don't think these arrogant bastards give a damn. When you hear phrases like, "what's the difference" and "Bring 'em on" and no to this investigation, stonewalling that investigation, destroying peoples reputation, etc. etc. etc. I honestly think they view themselves as above the law and don't give a crap about what the American people think.

And no, I don't think they're panicked. Does it occur to anyone that they knew this would come out, and decided now was the least-worst time to get it over with?

These people are brilliant PR executors. There isn't much that catches them flat-footed, in my opinion.

11. Out of touch
I will NEVER underestimate their capacity for corruption and plain old cheating. But I think the whole biz between the immigration initiative, Mars, and the SOTU shows a basic disconnect with concerns of the average person, even within their own party. Just a weird, hollow, going through the motions, probably like when shrub was at Yale. Bottom line they are just not that smart. Rove has gotten his boy and the Repub Congress this far with a combination of audacity (going hard right after a no-mandate election) and sheer ruthlessness (witness treatment of Valerie Plame), but NOT through genius. Their limited vision is starting to show.

13. None of the above
"What's The Mood in The White House? Nervousness? Panic? Blind Arrogance?"

My guess is absolute confidence.

I believe they think the Democratic candidates are all very weak and each easily beatable. I feel fairly sure they believe that the war on terrorism in general and even the Iraq war specifically will still be a plus for them come November.

I believe Bush will be extraordinarily difficult to beat come November, and I suspect they know it as well. I do not believe many in the Bush administration are too worried.....not yet anyway.

correct, at least about the "absolute confidence" part:

From Andrew Sullivan’s website

Wednesday, January 28th, 2004

BUSH IS IN DEEP TROUBLE: I'd say something else. The huge turn-out in New Hampshire; the electability factor for Kerry; the passion of the Dean people: all this shows how thoroughly energized the Democrats are to win back the White House. Bush is in the Rove-Cheney cocoon right now. From the SOTU, it looks like he's going to run on 9/11. Bad, backward-looking idea. His coalition is fracturing; his reach out to Hispanics seems to have hurt him more with the base than won him new votes; his spending has independents deeply concerned; Iraq is still a wild card; prescription drugs pandering hasn't swayed any seniors; the religious right wants him to attack gay couples in the Constitution - which will lose him the center. More worrying: I'm not sure he even knows he's in trouble.

15. One of the Bush responses on CNN
I just saw a Bush response in a clip from NH during Bush's campaign speech today.

To paraphrase:

It would be a disaster to repeal any of my tax cuts. To keep the economy growing, people need more of their money to spend. Government doesn't need it, it has lots of money."

Is this giving us all an OK not to pay anymore taxes? After all, if the gov't has lots of money, I guess they don't need any more.

Boy, if this guy can eliminate all my taxes, he just might have my vote!!!!!

;O)))))))))

the country out to dry.

I think that is the attitude of this man who thinks he is entitled and his past business dealings show this also.

I think this group of war criminals will be glad to leave once they have secured their fortunes in Iraq ventures. I mean that. I think Bush could care less about the country and it's constitution or it's people, and I think he could care less about what people will say about his attempts at fascism -- he got his and I think that was his prime goal. He thinks that makes him real macho and a real "leader"

Bush will go down in history as the worst president ever -- one who had to be "appointed" illegally by the Supreme Court who had no business taking on that case.

Those more than 200 corporations who got the reconstruction jobs in Iraq from the

Bush administration, who destroyed the infrastructure and the country that they now will be in charge of "restitution" will be forever indebted to him for this great financial opportunity.

They will be his friends forever and will certainly reward him in whatever way they can for this windfall that occurred on the backs of the dead 520 or more American troops and the , estimated, ten thousand innocent Iraqi civilians.

What the hell should he care what the country thinks of him? He got his and so did his buddies.

Same for Prescott and same for his daddy. The whole family seems to be evil.

27. All things considered...
... he's doing better than I thought he would. He's got 7 Democratic candidates ripping him daily, all the things swirling around, and his approval rating is still around 50% give or take. And the Bush election machine hasn't even revved up yet. They've got $200+ million waiting to spend and probably will receive another $200+ million between now and November. We just think our candidates are throwing mud at each other, just wait until BushCo gets hold of the nominee. It's going to be a long 9+ months.

30. All of the above
Defections among idiotic idealists quailing before the horrors they have accomplished and real failures. But not conversion to anything better. retrenchment and determination because the large sketch has gone swimmingly, the fig leaf media PR is deflecting enough, time is passing,
ruthless cheating and lying has shown to be successful beyond their dreams.

What they do know now is that they can never trust democracy, the fair opinion of any large group of humanity, or any equal system whatsoever. They will be set on the same path of "tough love" especially to steal, lie and cheat their way back against the possible revolt of the plurality they never won with their conservative goals.

We have to overwhelm them. And I mean we, not a magical candidate demo-god of impossible expectations. The reason no decent intelligent person can expect to be President is because the people let the creeps in through uncritical, spoiled passivity. The barriers imposed by these minority kings of the hill have to be stormed.

Otherwise you will constantly checking the media and polls to see if our lone champion has met with their approval. That is the depths of depraved political absurdity. That is how low we have sunk. Next up meet Presidents Jeb Bush and A. Schwarzenegger.

33. Mood? Above the law. Plan? Osama found in October.
These people are so sure their god is on their side that they scare the bejaysus out of me, so to speak. In service to whatever it is that motivates them they are destroying what I love best about my country.

I keep hoping that something--or given their actions, a lot of somethings--will finally bring them down. But the media self-censors like mad in service to the bottom line and to keep the ad sponsors happy. Where's Deep Throat when we need him? Where's the courageous owners, reporters, and editors? Where's the million or so Americans that took to the streets before the invasion?

Well... there is one thing, and that's the death toll of American troops. When enough people stop believing that their kid died or was mutilated for a good reason, and when the draft comes back and starts plucking up more kids... damn

Hekate

a fatal mistake to their reelection programs. Now is the to be writing your congress person and your senators about the economy, lack of jobs, no WMD, deathe in Iraq, Plame case, deficit and the list goes on and on.

Also write the editors of your local papers. We need to get our thoughts expressed well beyond the walls of DU.
